Aibu to think that trousers half way down the arse and boxers hanging out looks silly on a 34 year old man?
He says it's more comfortable but the more it hangs out the more I think he's more of a man child than a man ?!

How could it be comfortable? Just the thought of trying to run or even walk with my trousers half way down my bum is ridiculous.

DS started doing this when he was 12 in the 90s fgs it's been going on so long, it's vile and I know what it symbolises. he still wears his shoes undone with the heels down but at least he's not doing the trouser thing he's 32.

Savingshoes · 10/06/2020 09:36

I guess it's better than a builders bum on show?
I thought trousers hanging down was a prisoner thing?

pictish · 10/06/2020 09:37

How bizarre! The fashion for this has long since passed and there wasn’t ever a time it didn’t look ridiculous, even when it was in vogue.

Um...not sure what you can do about someone determined to go about their day looking stupid.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/06/2020 09:39

Yes but I'd be tempted to respond either with a pantsing or a wedgie so I'm not exactly the height of maturity either.

The pantsing ship has already sailed as he's already done the work for you - debagging him would be like intervening try to make Donald Trump look stupid.... On the other hand, wedgieing (isn't that a kind of duck?) would be very difficult as you have so much ground to have to cover in a very short space of time in order to maintain the element of shock and surprise to the wedgie-ee.

I agree with the PP that it just makes you look like a giant toddler in need of some basic toileting or dressing assistance from a parent. Fine if you are a toddler, but I doubt he'd think it cool to crawl around the floor or sit in a high chair at the age of 34.

I may be wrong (or only partially right), but I always understood that the idea was to show solidarity with prisoners - and presumably identify yourself as a 'gangsta' - with reference to having your belt confiscated on arrest (along with shoelaces, ties and any other potential suicide risks), hence your trousers fall down with nothing to keep them up.

As for the suggestion that they're comfier that way, how can this possibly be? Why would any clothing be comfier when not worn properly over the body parts that it's specifically designed to fit over - unless you're maybe too festively plump and can no longer pull them up all the way? It would be as ridiculous as claiming that mittens are much comfier if you put your thumb in the big pockety bit and then force your other four fingers into the single thumb section.

Hoppinggreen · 10/06/2020 09:42

Unless he’s a toddler then yes he is too old
I was once told that it was a signal in prison that the person was up for some “bum action” no idea if that’s true (prob more down to the fact that they didn’t have belts) but you could tell him that and see if it puts him off

hypernormal · 10/06/2020 09:45

This fashion comes from men in prison who aren't allowed to wear belts, so he's trying to look 'hard'. Bit like carrying a toy gun around and posing with it. Can't say it's a turn on for me, personally.

ppeatfruit · 10/06/2020 09:47

Oh and it must be COLD Grin . I hated those half up the belly tops as well I like feeling cosy (showing my age here Grin ) and tucking my top properly IN to my jeans.

hypernormal · 10/06/2020 09:47

...does he also wear a gun holster, like Gareth in 'The Office', or maybe a little cowboy outfit with chaps if that's what he's into.

EinsteinaGogo · 10/06/2020 09:48

He has his pants on show AND says comfy?

How can you be sexually attracted to this man?? EnvyEnvy

Cattenberg · 10/06/2020 09:51

Years ago, a young colleague was ticked off by our supervisor for “showing off next week’s washing”.

I’m not a fan of that look. Waddling around as though you’ve had a little accident isn’t attractive.

Norma27 · 10/06/2020 09:51

It looks ridiculous at any age and I couldn't be seen with someone who thought that was acceptable. I can't believe he isn't constantly ridiculed for it.
Luckily, my husband believes the same as me. You have my sympathies.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/06/2020 09:52

Does he say "Check itt!!!" and "Westsiiiide!!!" when he meets his homies in the hood?

SpiderStan · 10/06/2020 09:52

It's called UNDERwear for a reason!

I think it's silly for any age.

Timesdone · 10/06/2020 09:53

Buy him a belt

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/06/2020 09:54

Better still: some snazzy Bobby Ball-style braces.

InspectorCludo · 10/06/2020 09:58

My first boyfriend did this (I was 14 at the time).
No way could I ever contemplate a relationship with someone now that did this.
Dealbreaker.

TheStuffedPenguin · 10/06/2020 10:00

He wants to opt for "prison style trousers" ? Idiot !

BashStreetKid · 10/06/2020 10:04

Does he dress like this for work?

AuntieBiotic · 10/06/2020 10:05

Oh he must look tragic. It’s not a thing anymore even amongst the young. I wouldn’t walk next to him in that state.

BashStreetKid · 10/06/2020 10:07

Back when this was a fashion, I always found it quite funny. The people who adopted it obviously thought it was edgy and right on, but they just looked like little boys who'd forgotten to pull up their trousers or couldn't cope with the buttons. The way they had to waddle round and struggled with things like taking a big step up onto a train was always good entertainment.

Gatehouse77 · 10/06/2020 10:17

I've always thought that look was more like a toddler with a really wet nappy that drags the trousers down. And that's what I think when I see it - you look like a toddler!

IVFNewbie · 10/06/2020 10:18

He's 34 not 84. Let him do what he wants.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/06/2020 10:20

If he struggles with being able to hold on for a poo whilst he undoes buttons/zip and belt, can you maybe get one of those romper suits with a quick-release flap over the bottom area in an adult size?

I'm loving how he thinks he looks like a gangsta and everybody else is thinking he looks like a massive toddler Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/06/2020 10:23

He's 34 not 84. Let him do what he wants.

Surely it's when you're 84, not dependent on an employer and likely the oldest living person in the family, that you can more easily get away with doing whatever you want?!

Anydreamwilldo12 · 10/06/2020 10:29

How embarrasing. I would refuse to go out anywhere with him dressed like that.
