Miscarriage tests following 5 MCs

Hi I've been referred to a clinic at my local hospital due to 5 MCs... has anyone been to this sort of appointment? What should I expect and what should I ask for them to do? I figure it's a progesterone issue as all my blood showed low progesterone.. super nervous about it and I don't want high expectations and be disappointed after the appointment.

I used to work in a recurrent miscarriage clinic. They will do your bloods and arrange a hysteroscopy and check your tubes. They should arrange an ultrasound scan too, possibly an endometrial scratch. Your partner should be offered a sperm analysis. They will do bloods and go through your history.

I've had bloods and my CRP markers were raised but I had a tooth abscess at the time so they think it was that? Due to covid it will be a telephone consultation, so should I just jot down all the losses and times? What information would they need? Thanks so much for replying

I was tested at a RMC - you’ll have a lot of blood taken up front! I actually fell pregnant again during the tests / waiting on my results (we weren’t trying but I get pregnant very easily, my body just can’t hold on to them) - and I have to say I found the doctors and particularly my consultant incredible. They quickly reviewed my results and got me on medication to give me a fighting chance, and also scanned me at 7 and 9 weeks. I felt very well looked after. My 4-month old twins are currently fast asleep :) The very, very best of luck and I truly hope you get some answers and a happy ending of your own xx

Ah that's promising! What medication did they put you on?

I was on prednisolone, levothyroxine and Clexane. It was all such a rush with the unexpected pregnancy but I think the main issue was high thyroid antibodies. I was also on aspirin from 8 weeks to 34 weeks. I never really looked too deeply in to my test results as I just didn’t want to know what was ‘wrong’ if that makes sense as I was anxious enough as it was! I just decided to just trust the consultant and meds. Xx

Sorry for your losses OP. I've just had my 3rd MC, and also been referred. I've been told that after history, I'll have blood tests for clotting disorders and hormones. A more detailed scan of tubes/uterus and potentially a semen analysis. No idea when this will all be, as I haven't heard from them as yet. Keep us updated x

All my bloods came back normal :( thyroid wasn't an issue, I had 2 live births and my last daughter was emergency C section, and since then the issues started? Could something have happend? Thank you for your lovely responses

Hi OP, if it's a telephone consultation they will likely take a detailed history from you and possibly give you a prescription for progesterone and/or blood thinners/steroids depending on the consultant. They really should give progesterone as the prism trial showed that the more losses you had the more likely it is to work. I would imagine they'll refer you for further tests once everything opens up again. The worst thing about recurrent loss I found was the sheer lack of answers and 'it's just bad luck' responses. Hopefully you find it useful!

I had a number of miscarriages due to low progesterone (3 before my first pregnancy and another 3 before my second). They prescribed a progesterone suppository (cyclogest) which worked straight away both times

Look into high levels of natural killer cells. It’s not something believed by all doctors but it’s helped a lot of us find reasons for our miscarriages and be successfully treated. The NHS probably won’t test you for them. They should test you for clotting issues and other things but not NK cells. There is a group on the conception board called something along the lines of immune issues/nk cells aka the pred thread. Someone there will be able to advise more.

At my appointment the male consultant was there with a female nurse as chaperone. He went through my health and pregnancy history, gave me a vaginal ultrasound and pronounced everything to be healthy, took lots of little bottles of blood - about 11 or 12 of them and talked at some length about the importance of controlling stress and taking vitamin D.

That's interesting I'll ask about that! I take vitamins and just started evening primrose oil I read somewhere that they help, hoping to get a consultant in the wont harm might help camp

All usual tests came back normal after 3mcs. I had private tests through BUPA and came back with 'High' NK cells. I then took prednisolone from ovulation along with aspirin and vit d3. I fell pregnant 2nd cycle and started progesterone pessaries from BFP. My daughter is now 8.

It's hard when you don't get answers but there are lots of places for info online and back then there was a book called'Is Your Body Baby Friendly' that helped us understand the issues.

I had recurrent first trimester miscarriages having previously made it through the first trimester - at the recurrent miscarriage clinic I had a lot of blood tests which were all normal.

I was told to take aspirin daily from BFP and also to start progesterone pessaries at the same time.

My consultant believed that my early miscarriages were caused by ‘hyper fertility’ rather than any physical issue so it was more a matter of luck on whether a pregnancy was successful.

I went on to have two successful pregnancies.

@HMBB are we perchance old ‘friends’ from the Pred Thread? My first Pred baby will be 8 in a few weeks.

Also my miscarriage specialist will tell you to take pregnancy vitamins plug omega 3, an additional 20ug of vitamin D3 and also low dose aspirin.

Hi ladies, I'm new here and just looking for some advice. I recently have a second miscarriage and just found out I'm pregnant again😁 how ever I've started with pink discharge which is how my last miscarriage started, I went for a emergency scan yesterday as I've started with the pink discharge again, but as only 5 weeks couldn't really see much, I have to go back in 2 weeks for anorher scan. The midwife also give me Cyclogest to take which I've never heard of before (does this actually help) , but still having the pink discharge. Is this normal has anyone else had this. I'm really scared and nervous I don't know if I can cope with another miscarriage xx
