AIBU?

To think 8.00am isn't too early ...

To mow the grass?

We have a very quiet electric mower. And most mornings there are delivery lorries/vans making a racket at 8 (the whole street seems to be extending their house atm, we have a builder's lorry almost every day and they always come early).

The sun is on the back garden until gone 6pm, I work until 2.30 and by the time the grass is in the shade I'm frankly knackered.

Would it really BU to give it a quick mow at 8?

I’m a very early riser and I think 8am is unreasonable. 9am is ok.

I wouldn’t cut the grass before 9am during the week and 10am at the weekend.

A bin lorry passing at 7 is doing just that, passing. Mowing a lawn takes a significant amount of time even if it is teeny.

On a weekday that's fine. Aren't people normally up and getting ready, travelling to or even at work at that time (pre Covid)?

Weekends, I'd wait til 9am.

Given that you presumably don't work 7 days a week why can't you mow it on your days off?

Agree; 9 weekdays 10 weekends earliest! There's always the posters who say "well I get up at 2.15am so anything after 3 is fine because late risers are lazy bastards" or similar Grin

I find it strange that lots of people are saying 8am is far too early. The bin lorry comes just after 7am emptying all the bottle boxes which are very loud. Can't see any difference and I bet those who would complain about mowing the lawn wouldn't complain to the council about the bins

Not all bin lorries come at the same time. Ours arrives around 10/11ish for rubbish and lunchtime for recycling

Too early! I restrict noise making activities to between 10am and 6pm.

Yes, of course it is. You're being ridiculous to compare the sound with passing traffic!

Wouldn't bother me at all, but I am a very early riser.

I had to almost physically restrain DP from cutting the grass before 9am last week. Wait until 9.01.

@Aria2015 sensible times!

@PolPotNoodle 😂 😂

OP 8am is anti social, do it later.

Too early. Not a minute before 9 on a weekday.

I think lawn mowing should be after 10am really. If you have any neighbours who are elderly or sick etc they may well not get up until after 8am.

A bin lorry has a day full of collections to do, I pressume. The OP prefers not to cut the grass in the sunshine or when she is tired so has chosen 8am.

No it's ridiculously early. Stop being so selfish.

Surely 9am minimum. Not everyone is a morning person. Consider your neighbours ffs.

10am at weekends.

I think it's fine, surely most people are up by 8 for work /school at 9 unless their working nights and unfortunately you have no idea when would be acceptable.

Minniee · 08/06/2020 18:48

Why does it need to be in the shade?

FangsForTheMemory · 08/06/2020 18:49

I've always told myself 9am for anything noisy eg vacuuming, Monday to Saturday, noon on Sundays.

Depends on your mower, though as a pp mentioned, we* wouldn't mow ours until the dew had gone. Our NDN has a ridiculously loud petrol mower, and a full set of equally noisy garden tools.Fucker is frequently rootling through his shed under my bedroom window for loud things to piss around with before 7:45. Our lawn is the same size, and perfectly manageable with a very quiet push mower, at a reasonable hour.

*royal we. It's not me.

Far too early,I wouldn’t do it till 10am at the earliest, I have a neighbour who thinks nothing of going out at 8.40am, strimming his full garden with a petrol strimmer.... total knob!
