To be a bit freaked out...

Sadly my lovely father in law died seven weeks ago. He was a lovely man and is greatly missed by us all.

Today I went to the funeral directors to collect his ashes. The funeral director put them straight in my car for me in a cardboard box to protect the casket. I've just got home and DH and I have opened the box to find DH's name engraved on the top of the casket 😬😬😬.

I know it will be accidental and these things happen but AIBU to feel completely freaked by this? DH is older than me and currently shielding and whilst he's still a long way from being old, the sight of a casket of ashes with his name on has really upset me...

Anyone had anything similar before?

Maybe best tell dh you can't collect just yet and give them time to rectify the mistake?

We opened the box together saw both saw it, he was emotional as it having his dad back and then that!!

Fuck OP that is harsh and totally unacceptable. Surely this kind of situation requires checking, double then triple checking for errors.
Sorry for your loss and subsequent distress. Flowers for you both.

YANBU, that sounds very upsetting and I'd be very upset too. You wouldn't expect funeral directors to make a mistake that big. Sorry for your loss x

Going to speak to them tomorrow and try and sort it out. Still feel very emotional about it all but I don't know if I'm being ridiculous and over sensitive 😞

Oh that's awful OP. Sad Definitely get them to fix it

Crunchymum · 08/06/2020 19:03

Do they have similar names?

Crunchymum · 08/06/2020 19:05

Maybe they have mixed up the deceased and the payee? I'd def be asking them to rectify it.

So they have engraved the name of your DH on the box containing the ashes instead of your father in laws?

It's insensitive but I wouldn't kick up a fuss about it. Mistakes can and do happen.
