AIBU to consider a polycarbonate roof

We need a new conservatory. Ours is currently falling down and leaking. We currently use it as a dumping ground. We want it to be used as a playroom all year round but AIBU to consider a polycarbonate roof?

Has anyone had one in the last few years who can confirm if the conservatory is usable all year round.

Are you looking at an all glass type conservatory? Our one which is all windows and a polycarb roof is more prone to being too hot and too cold. Our other one which is half brick and has a polycarb roof is more bearable, but can get quite cold in winter. But it's a small room and easy enough to blast an electric fan heater for a bit to keep it warm.

I'd probably go for a half brick conservatory with a tiled roof if I was to rebuild one in the future and wasn't in the position to get a proper extension.

Mines half brick with a polycarbonate roof, it's a classic rubbish conservatory- far too hot in summer and freezing in winter.

I'd replace mine with a solid roof next time.

We are looking at two brick walls either side. Then bi-folding doors across the whole of the front.
It needs to be usable all year round so if a polycarbonate roof will be hot in summer and cold in winter we will need to go for a glass or solid roof.

Parents conservatory has had a poly roof which was as said before hot in summer cold in winter and was destroyed by snow in 2010, then they had glazing with a auto opener to let heat out but it was still roasting in summer, they finally settled on solid and its been pretty good all year round since.

We have one in a conservatory with a radiator in that we use as the playroom, it’s okay in winter if the radiator is on, but gets unbearable in summer. If it’s south facing they’re a pain as it’s like a greenhouse and does get unusable at some times. I suspect it would be better in a north facing conservatory. When we have the money I want to replace with a solid roof!

Polycarbonate will be a complete waste of money.

We have a polycarbonate roof, it's far too hot in summer and is cold in winter, although it soon warms with an electric heater. Things kept on show also fade, we have 1 solid wall and 2 glass walls, eventually we plan to brick another wall, put bi-folding doors in and put a solid roof on with 2 windows in. We also had the polycarbonate roof blow out of place over winter which then caused leaks and problems, we then had to get them clicked back into place quite a few times because of the high winds.
