Neighbours cat sprayed all over my daughters pram

I'm so furious, I had left my daughters pram in the back garden and forgotten to bring it inside, I have a small house and I usually leave it in the boot of my car, the neighbours have a male cat and a un spayed female, so in turn I have had groups of male cats hanging about my garden, spraying all over, when I went to get the pram inside it absolutely stunk to high heavens of cat urine, there's no saving it, it was in good condition and would have lasted until I no longer needed one, I feel like knocking on their door to complain and asking them to replace it....but I know it was my fault for leaving it out, not sure why I'm posting just needed to vent 😡

Can it not be cleaned?

LadyFeliciaMontague · 07/06/2020 21:00

Such an irresponsible owner having unneutered pets!

Do you know exactly which bit was sprayed, Is it worth trying something like this? Do bits come off that could be soaked in a weak bleach solution?

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 21:01

Wash it with hot fairy liquid and rinse with cold water then spray with this . It really works

Here’s how to get the smell out. Then a good wash and leave in sun to dry!

My naughty neutered boy sprays on things . It's bloody annoying but it's when he gets upset by other cats nearby.. this stuff above saved our sofa !!

Mrsjayy · 07/06/2020 21:02

You can wash it surely? Bio washing powder and some white vinegar and wash it down.

Parker231 · 07/06/2020 21:02

Of course it can be saved. A pram isn’t a disposable item. Just wipe it down with a damp cloth with a liquid detergent.

NaughtyButNice · 07/06/2020 21:03

Do you definitely know it was their cat that sprayed on your pram? If you didn't actually witness it happening then it could be any other cat in the local area.

Rosebel · 07/06/2020 21:03

Oh I'd be mad too. I never understand why don't get their cats neutered. I love cats, have two of my own but got them neutered as soon as they were old enough.
I understand how you feel about going to the neighbours but unless you know them well they may well refuse and ask you to prove it was their cat. Absolutely maddening though.

ekidmxcl · 07/06/2020 21:03

That is filthy.
Nothing you can say to neighbour. In this country we allow people to keep cats, they are allowed to roam, to shit, to kill wildlife, to wreck stuff etc. No idea why we have such stupid laws.

mamamilkmachine · 07/06/2020 21:03

@Cabinfever10 cat urine is really hard to get rid of, a wipe down won't save it and don't want to put my daughter in there if it's not completely clean

@LadyFeliciaMontague I tried to remove the covers but it won't fully detach, it's a mamas and papas armadillo in black and it's wipe clean only

Ickabog · 07/06/2020 21:03

Whilst the smell isn't pleasant there are ways of removing it, such as bicarb of soda. You definitely don't need to chuck away a decent pram because of it.

Samster45 · 07/06/2020 21:03

I know it’s not the point but I use white vinegar to get cat wee smell out of things. It works really well. If it’s on the washable parts, washing with white vinegar will remove the smell or if it’s on the base then wipe it down with white vinegar. My cat did this to our car seat when my DD was young and I forgot to remove it. It came out really easily. Don’t use bleach as the chemicals in bleach actually attract cats to wee on it

slipperywhensparticus · 07/06/2020 21:04

Just use bio wash liquid/powder it with be fine no need to get dramatic about things

And shove some lion poo in your garden to keep the tom cats out

TerribleCustomerCervix · 07/06/2020 21:05

Most pram fabrics can be removed for cleaning.

Can you check the user manual online to double check that you can’t remove the affected area before you write off the pram?

dementedpixie · 07/06/2020 21:05

I'd get an enzyme urine removal spray from pets at home as that would break down the odour molecules

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 21:05

Don't wipe it down , get it properly wet and scrub with fairy liquid and all of the above .. you can wash things properly as long as you rinse with clean water and dry in the sunshine .

mamamilkmachine · 07/06/2020 21:07

Sorry..... so many responses by the time I managed to reply to the first two! I just don't think I will get rid of it, unless I can clean it properly I don't want to put my daughter back in there, I aren't actually going to complain to the neighbours, I'm just angry, however I shouldn't have left it out

OP posts:
mamamilkmachine · 07/06/2020 21:09

I had started trying to remove the covers, there was lots of screws holding the seat in and when I finally got to the point where I thought it might come off there was a part that wasn't detachable holding it in place

OP posts:
User478 · 07/06/2020 21:13

If you're just going to bin it you might as well give it a good scrub first as you've nothing to lose.

If you can't get the covers off, put it in your bath/shower as it is and wash it down with hot water and washing up liquid then follow with enzyme cleaner. Leave it to dry in the sun for a day or two.

FreckledLeopard · 07/06/2020 21:15

Neutered cats still spray - my male cat was neutered as a kitten and still sprays inside and out.

I second the suggestions on the thread and I'm sure you'll be able to get rid of the smell.

Have a google - there are companies that will clean your buggy professionally! Like buggypitstop.co.uk

overandoverafail · 07/06/2020 21:16

You can definitely remove the seat cover to wash. Once it's off follow previous posters advice with the washing instructions and you should be good to go!

roses2 · 07/06/2020 21:17

If you can't get the covers off, put it in your bath/shower as it is

This- I've done this before to clean a large item and it worked a treat as you can literally leave it soaking in hot water for as long as you want.
