Neighbours cat sprayed all over my daughters pram

I'm so furious, I had left my daughters pram in the back garden and forgotten to bring it inside, I have a small house and I usually leave it in the boot of my car, the neighbours have a male cat and a un spayed female, so in turn I have had groups of male cats hanging about my garden, spraying all over, when I went to get the pram inside it absolutely stunk to high heavens of cat urine, there's no saving it, it was in good condition and would have lasted until I no longer needed one, I feel like knocking on their door to complain and asking them to replace it....but I know it was my fault for leaving it out, not sure why I'm posting just needed to vent 😡

My spayed female cat would spray occasionally she got the buggy just 2 days after I got it that's how I knew how to clean it

mamamilkmachine · 07/06/2020 21:20

@overandoverafail thanks for the link but I tried that and it doesn't seem to be the same model, the seat covers are screwed on rather than buttons, and even after removing all the screws there is one part that is welded on holding the full thing in.
I think you are all right though I should at least try to clean it! But I can't leave it outside to dry or the same thing might happen again

I think you should say something to the neighbours (I'm a cat owner) and ask them to get the animals neutered as the visiting cats are a nuisance.

Also, experience tells me you will struggle to remove the smell from the pram. But you could try Making a solution of biological washing liquid and saturate the fabric and leave overnight then wash off the next day. If it doesn't work, bin it as it will piss you off every time you look at it.

crazychemist · 07/06/2020 21:21

Ah, bugger, cat wee is a real pain. We have a cat, and although he’s normally really well behaved and doesn’t spray on stuff, he was jealous of DD when she was about a year old and would spray on her stuff if he could get away with it! (I assume some kind of dominance thing). He sprayed on her car seat when I’d brought it inside because I was going to swap it to the other car when DH got home.

You can get rid of the smell. Seriously recommend getting an enzyme spray, although for anything that you can get off, just a decent wash will get rid of most of the smell and then you can find lots of tips on the internet for how to wash with bicarb etc.

Sorry that this has happened to you. Even as a cat owner, I know that cats can sometimes do REALLY annoying things!

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 21:21

Good idea about the bath, get it scrubbed then Spray it with the stuff I posted .. honestly it will be clean and won't smell !

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/06/2020 21:23

Either their breeding the female for tax free money or they can’t get her spayed due to lockdown. An unneutered female shouldn’t be out where toms can get her pg and they’ll fight over her causing injury’s.

LadyFeliciaMontague · 07/06/2020 21:24

I realised my link didn’t work. Definitely worth trying to clean it.
I think if the covers won’t come off I’d scrub it with bleach then hose it down.

kaleidoscopeantebellum · 07/06/2020 21:24

How do you know for definite it was your neighbours cat?

brakethree · 07/06/2020 21:24

Of course you can wash your pram as other posters have said, but that's not the point. It's disgusting. I would sit in the garden with your garden hose and spray the cat when it comes in and make my garden as cat proof as I could.

Sheepareawesome · 07/06/2020 21:27

Is it worth sticking it in the bath to soak? If it's going into the bin anyway you have nothing to lose!

Mrsjayy · 07/06/2020 21:28

I think you should mention it to the neighbour .

GeistohneGrenzen · 07/06/2020 21:36

I had this problem from one of my neighbour's cats recently, but on the back wall of my house. One solution that worked was to mix 50/50 white vinegar and water and spray. That did get rid of the stench.

Blueroses99 · 07/06/2020 21:37

Mamas and Papas have a valet service, it’s going to be cheaper than a new pram.

SionnachGlic · 07/06/2020 21:39

Good idea about putting it in the bath...scrub away & use the specialist cat pee mixture. Don't get rid - you'll get it clean & fresh again. And could you leave at a height outdoors to dry- out of the reach of the cats. I'm sure you could get something from petshop that would keep cats away from garden.

Neutered cats do spray..we hads ours neutered when he was a kitten & he used to spray trees/shrubs in the garden.

MrsSnitchnose · 07/06/2020 21:41

This is brilliant stuff. I used it for a cat spray accident and it's the only thing I've used that left no lingering odour afterwards. Can also be used for things like vomit too so wouldn't be wasted afterwards

mamamilkmachine · 07/06/2020 21:42

Thanks everyone for the responses, I will give cleaning it a good go tomorrow, I just got so angry when I realised, then I couldn't take the covers off, and then I threw it in the recycling bin! I will just have to leave it to dry in the kitchen, or possibly LO's playhouse.

willowmelangell · 07/06/2020 21:43

Don't Use Bleach! The ammonia in bleach is the same thing in tom cat urine! Other toms will spray over it to dominate and mark territory!
A bio detergent powder in hot water and a disposable scrubbing brush is your quick fix. Rinse in the shower.
My sympathies. It does reek.

AllergictoWerewolves · 07/06/2020 21:44

@oohnicevase, I can't see your link! What was the stuff you used? I have a neurotic neutered cat who finds everything scary and has to wee to calm himself down....

CrystalTipped · 07/06/2020 21:48

Put a note through their door asking them to get their cat spayed. It's very irresponsible.

SoloMummy · 07/06/2020 21:50
@Cabinfever10 cat urine is really hard to get rid of, a wipe down won't save it and don't want to put my daughter in there if it's not completely clean

@LadyFeliciaMontague I tried to remove the covers but it won't fully detach, it's a mamas and papas armadillo in black and it's wipe clean only
You can take these apart totally, even the seat covers come off.
Hoof can be removed. Unpop the rest. Then it can go on the bath.

User8008135 · 07/06/2020 21:52

Make a mix of bio washing powder, anti back washing liquid and a good squirt of washing up liquid. Rinse well, scrub hard, rinse, scrub again and rinse twice. If you can leave it in the sun, that's the best for stinks.

The scrubbing works the best, just remove anything you can first. Maybe try a professional cleaner otherwise? They can sun dry. But tell your neighbour as it could happen again and to other things. Very irresponsible. Poor you and poor female cat.

Louise91417 · 07/06/2020 21:53

I used to put my pram in back garden and put the hose on full whack and give it a good clean. I was for chixking mine many a time because of milk stains and it always got rid of the stains and smells. Cat pee is really hard to get rid of so a wipe down wouldnt do, using the hose will rinse it thoroughly, i also used a bit of fairy washing power to freshen. As pp posted said dont use any form of bleach as it encourages cats to pee...

Rosieandtwinkle · 07/06/2020 21:57

This stuff is brilliant, we use it if the dogs, ours or visiting pups, have an accident. Johnson’s Pet Odour remover.

Neighbours cat sprayed all over my daughters pram
Chewbecca · 07/06/2020 21:57
 • you will be able to clean it
 • it could have been a fox or anything, can’t ‘accuse’ your neighbours cat unless you’re sure
Rosieandtwinkle · 07/06/2020 21:58

I should add we use this, then wash as normal afterwards.
