Neighbours cat sprayed all over my daughters pram

I'm so furious, I had left my daughters pram in the back garden and forgotten to bring it inside, I have a small house and I usually leave it in the boot of my car, the neighbours have a male cat and a un spayed female, so in turn I have had groups of male cats hanging about my garden, spraying all over, when I went to get the pram inside it absolutely stunk to high heavens of cat urine, there's no saving it, it was in good condition and would have lasted until I no longer needed one, I feel like knocking on their door to complain and asking them to replace it....but I know it was my fault for leaving it out, not sure why I'm posting just needed to vent 😡

Definitely the enzyme spray, I get mine from a pet shop.

Letsnotusemyname · 07/06/2020 22:01

Rug Doctor products have worked well for us.

B and Q, Morrisons etc. The spray bottles are near the carpet cleaner vacuums that you can hire out.

Useful for wee and vomit accidents of both humans and felines.

imamum21 · 07/06/2020 22:01

you can get cat repellent granules im sure they are called scent off, they are brilliant and not expensive its to keep the cats out the garden, just remember to put more down after it rains, i know that wont help your problem with the pram but hopefully using them the cats will learn to stay away from your garden

Daytripping7 · 07/06/2020 22:01

It’s a horrible smell. I feel for you. Our neighbours’ cat used to come and spray in our house because of our kitten. Yuck I’ll never forget it. It actually put me off basil for years as it smells like a really horrible version of basil to me!

But please don’t throw the pram away - what a waste. Give it a go at cleaning it, or list it on freecycle with a warning it needs a wash.

Also accusing your neighbours will do nothing but ruin your relationship with your neighbours. They don’t have a time machine.

MMN123 · 07/06/2020 22:11

I’ve used Rug Doctor Urine Eliminator - fantastic stuff. A neighbours male cat got into our house and was trapped while we were away for a weekend - arrived back to a stinking house and a hungry cat. Was worried carpets were ruined but it was brilliant. Takes a bit of time but it’s worth it.

I am a car owner OP - my female cat is spayed, so does not have gentlemen callers. I would be just as annoyed, and you really do need to speak to your neighbour, not so much to demand that the pram is replaced (though I can understand why you feel this, and a really decent person might offer) but to leave them in no doubt about how angry you are, and how this could all be prevented if they just got the bloody cats neutered. An intact female will have millions of toms spraying and yollering to all hours, I am surprised they are not teeming with kittens. Do they do it deliberately to have kittens to sell?

I would give them an ultimatum, to get the cats sorted or you'll be seeking replacement of anything else that gets sprayed on in future. More toms round your garden means cat mess too which is a danger to your child - I would really give them both barrels!

Cabinfever10

Can it not be cleaned?

I love my cat. Cat pee odour is incredibly hard to get rid of though and I’d be cross too.

TryingToBeBold · 07/06/2020 22:40

An enzyme spray would be good? Don't the crime scene cleaner people use it (their own brand but still).
If it can get the smell of death out I'm sure it will work on cat pee

SpiritEssence · 07/06/2020 22:40

Vets are spaying as had my kitten done. Its lazy and bad ownership for people not to get there cats neutered or spayed. All people have to do is tall to there vets or find a best who will do it.

I'm lucky my vet rang me and offered to do her a few days later. Sorry to hear about your pram op hope you can sort it out.

nevermorelenore · 07/06/2020 22:55

Its definitely worth finding a professional buggy cleaner. I bought a second hand travel system and my DH picked it up, not noticing that it stunk to high heaven of really spicy, oniony cooking smells. I washed it in the bath and dried it outside during the heatwave and it still smelled awful. Took it to my local buggy cleaner and she did an amazing job. Cost about £50 and it came back like new and lasted for many years!

Wifeofbikerviking · 07/06/2020 22:59

If you did actually see the cat then go ask the neighbour to clean it. I would.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/06/2020 23:56

@mamamilkmachine - white vinegar - the proper stuff not non brewed condiment - is really good at getting out the smell of cat wee. I used to have to use it in the carpet when one of our cats started having accidents inside, and the room smelt like a chippy for an hour or so, but faded very quickly.

oohnicevase · 08/06/2020 07:08

@AllergictoWerewolves this one .. Amazon £5 ish .. I actually bought the dog one by mistake but it totally saved our sofa after my naught neutered Bengal used it to spray/ wee on .. we used a carpet cleaner and scrubbed it and everything... 3 bloody squirts and the smell has gone!!! Amazing stuff!!
I use it around the house to deter him now !

Thank you everyone for the suggestions, I will get it out, screw it back together and put some real effort into cleaning it, I have had a female cat myself, she was spayed as young as possible but she had peed on my carpet, even with pulling up the carpet and cleaning the floorboards and both sides of the carpet with enzyme cleaners I felt I could still smell it, hence why I instantly decided there was no saving it.
The neighbours cats are always in my garden, I have thrown away my daughters sand from her sand pit recently as that had been pooped in by the un spayed female, she also uses the end of my garden as her litter tray 😡 and even if it wasn't their male cat, the other male cats wouldn't be hanging around like they are if their female wasn't in heat.
I have actually mentioned the male cats to the neighbours and he said that he was woken in the middle of the night by a male that had got into their house and was calling in his bedroom!

So it's in the bath with lots of bio wash powder and oxy stain remover.....I'm shocked and slightly disgusted by the colour of the water 😳 the wheels were dirty but goodness me!

Yes, all cat urine is dreadful. I have had to deal with child's, dog's and cat's and the cat's is in a league of its own. Cats are an animal most closely related to civets and weasels and raccoons, I believe, so no wonder. Your neighbours sound very odd people, who don't seem to mind their own bedroom turning into a cat knocking shop. My sympathies. I don't know how they can stand the noise of toms, never mind the smell.

I8toys · 08/06/2020 10:38

Just wash it - isn't there enough frickin drama in the world at the moment.
