There are shocking levels of violence against officers currently, this is not ok.

Are we only allowed to care about one circumstance of violence at a time?

Will we hear about the protesters injured by the horse? I saw it take out at least one protester. Not a word said on the news. But false suggestions she was knocked off by a missile despite footage showing otherwise were shown briefly this morning. Why?

Where was the looting and rioting?

I saw a protest turn into a shitshow very quickly and injuries and violence were STILL minimal despite the potential for an actual riot and a horse galloping down a street due to police error.

A Small group wanting violence is at every protest.

Police horses get shit thrown at them, they get punched, they are antagonistic if used incorrectly.

If used correctly one of them would not have been galloping among a crowd of people who must have been shitting themselves while its rider was flat out after riding into a traffic light.

There was a MASSIVE cock up and the police know it and the media know it because they were showing it live on tv.

Even your link isn't focused on 'shocking levels of violence' because there were none to focus on it was a bog standard protest with added police horse cock up.

"Shocking levels of violence"

Not as bad as is seen at every bloody protest, many football matches, some carnivals, City centres late at night on a regular basis. The police were saying it went well last night/early morning.

But what would they know

You don’t know what you are talking about.

outcomethewolves I already have commented on violence on both sides? I can still abhor police brutality whilst also giving my opinion on the violence against police last night. There are no rules to say you can only be on the side of one section. But it's clear on here that people who are for the protests will not denounce the violence towards police officers doing their jobs. They seem too blinkered to even consider that violence is wrong whatever the circumstance.

chomalungma · 07/06/2020 11:52

I admire the tactics of Gandhi when it came to non violence.

OTOH - there are people who are oppressed and who have used non violence and it's got nowhere. How do you fight oppression when you have little power and those in power use violence to oppress you? I am thinking of all those murderous regimes that have ever existed.

And then it comes to WW2 for example - we were under attack. At what point is violence necessary to defend yourself?

Is it clear? The OP, despite their supposed pacifism, has made the discussion all about the violence of protesters. Pp who don't agree with that are arguing against it, that doesn't mean they in any way approve of violent attack on police officers doing their jobs.
