There are shocking levels of violence against officers currently, this is not ok.

@LetsAllGoOnHoliday

Over a million people have protested in Hong Kong.

Not one arrest.

What are you talking about? Unless you mean the increasingly pro-CCP/Mainland China influenced HK police

Thousands have been arrested and imprisoned. Hundreds just this month alone Confused

OutComeTheWolves · 07/06/2020 00:51

It's 52 years since Martin Luther King's death. There's only so long people can politely ask to be treated correctly. At some point this was always going to happen.

The shame is for the government that have perpetuated and fuelled a climate where a police officer felt able to slowly kill a black man in public as people looked on, because the chances of him getting any sort of punishment for it were so tiny. The shame is not for the people who have had enough of this shit.

So yes in my opinion the violence is justified.

CherryPavlova · 07/06/2020 01:03

I guess the question is, should Hitler have been left unchallenged?

CherryPavlova · 07/06/2020 01:03

Or Idi Amin?

CherryPavlova · 07/06/2020 01:04

Should we resort to violence as a defence of freedom and other lives?

CherryPavlova · 07/06/2020 01:05

Should we stand by and watch people die for fear of standing up for righteousness?

janeskettle · 07/06/2020 01:06

People do understand that what may be a just use of force in one circumstance (fighting against the Axis powers during WW2) may be an unjust use of force in another?

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/06/2020 01:12

Genuine pacifism, like the Quakers in the wars is noble. Costa Rica not having a standing army? Noble.

Using your putative pacifism to criticise the BLM movement? I think I know what you are doing.

DeeCeeCherry · 07/06/2020 01:14

Well OP you've not mentioned the string of violent racist murders leading to protests at all so I assume you CAN justify violence when it's against black people

Chaotic45 · 07/06/2020 07:56

@hibbledobble it would be a good idea for you to do more reading about the suffragette movement if you don't believe their violent and disruptive protests payed a huge part in gaining the vote. You will find that their vote would not have come about when it did if it wasn't for their actions.

AlwaysCheddar · 07/06/2020 08:16

A protest shouldn’t involve violence. I think there’s too many people attending looking for an excuse to have a fight, vandalise etc.

Livelovebehappy · 07/06/2020 08:25

Saying violence is justified?? Seriously? What about one of the police officers lying injured in hospital this morning. He was doing his job. Why does he deserve violence against him? Why does his wife and his children deserve to have to sit at his bedside worried and distraught? If we didn’t have police on the streets, who else would have been the target of this thuggery? Violence is never okay, because as soon as this is introduced to the protests, the argument is lost, and the points you are trying to make are done. Shocked that people seem to think it’s okay for innocent people to be attacked and hospitalised.

lilmishap · 07/06/2020 08:40

The protest was caused by police brutality.

The ONLY officer in hospital I'm aware of was thrown from her horse which then galloped down a crowded street.

You have NO idea what the circumstances were ONLY what the media says. For decades the media told you that the police were NOT battering black and asian people and you believed that too,.

AlwaysCheddar · 07/06/2020 08:44

There’s at least a dozen police hurt so far....

AlwaysCheddar · 07/06/2020 08:45

And why throw bikes and stuff at horses? Animal cruelty....

Sicktaethebackyeeth · 07/06/2020 08:49

The person throwing a bike at the horse should be put in jail. Despicable

TheNavigator · 07/06/2020 08:52

Martin Luther King was against violence. And they shot him. I can understand black people are getting a bit fed up being told to be nice and not be violent when they continue to be on the receiving end of violence.

Weebitawks · 07/06/2020 08:53

Then you explain to me how black people are to get equal rights ? Should they sit quietly until the white man decides to bestow the safety and rights upon them?

Unfortunately, that doesn't happen..rights have to be taken. Ask yourself how we as a society let this shit happen.

Greysparkles · 07/06/2020 08:56

Then you explain to me how black people are to get equal rights

Explain to me how throwing bikes at horses completes that aim?

Brieandcheddar · 07/06/2020 08:59

Sick to death of people allowing free rein to literally destroy of country and actually hurt people.
Looters, rioters are destroying lives, many black lives at that. I just dont get it.
Ive heard many black people state they do not want this. They want peaceful protests.
It cannot escape people on here many of the looters and rioters are white and yet we have people sticking up for them saying this is the only way.
Absolutely stupid. They are not there for BLM. They are there to riot and steal.

Greysparkles · 07/06/2020 09:03

Also the lack of social distancing is galling.

Livelovebehappy · 07/06/2020 09:05

lilmishap please check the facts before posting - a dozen police officers in hospital. And then you imply that the horse was also at fault by ‘galloping down a crowded street’. And yes, I absolutely agree there is police brutality in the world, but that does not excuse someone throwing objects and attacking someone who is doing their job. Every single one of the protesters who attacked people should be identified and arrested. But we all know it won’t happen.

SimonJT · 07/06/2020 09:11

I’m sorry, I can’t find your thread about state sanctioned violence.

To say that violence is never justified?
Avenueofcherryblossom · 07/06/2020 09:11

The ONLY officer in hospital I'm aware of was thrown from her horse which then galloped down a crowded street

My understanding is that the horse bolted because the crowd were attacking it, throwing missiles at it.

You sound very casual about a woman lying seriously injured in hospital.

OutComeTheWolves · 07/06/2020 09:23

@livelovebehappy what about the 7666 black Africans dead at the hands of police brutality. Comment on that too if you're so against violence.
