Mulling this over as I look through job listings. I think for me it is enjoying fitness classes at different expensive studios, well pre covid it was. Not sure when we will be able to do that again! But I really enjoy it so much and it is definitely not an essential, I'm fortunate to be able to do so. We do live in an eye-wateringly expensive area so I guess that is partly a luxury, although we do need to live in this city for my partner's work.

What would you say is the most luxury aspect of your lifestyle?

Mrsbclinton · 07/06/2020 10:31

We are a very ordinary family, drive old cars, I work pt, DH full time.

My luxuries are:
Scented candles
Nesspresso coffee
Take away coffee
Perfume
Kids parties / days out
We rarely travel abroad but are saving up to hopefully go away next year.

GreenTeaMug · 07/06/2020 10:35

I love taking my two DSs away for weekends. DH has one of those wretched MN hobbies that takes him away for weeks at a time and no-one else in the family is into it. So afew years back I started taking the boys away for a long weekend. First year was Centreparcs, then a trip away on the Isle of Wight. Now one long weekend every July we go somewhere. We do activities (I was very good at archery!) and we do all the cheesy entertainments and we LOVE it. I am possibly feeling the loss of this this year more than our planned for holiday to Spain.

Iamclearlyamug · 07/06/2020 10:46

My horse and travel abroad 5 or 6 times a year to spend time with my fiancé, flights are the only cost though so not as expensive as it could be. I drive an 18 year old car and only spend about £30 a week on food shopping so definitely scrimp in other areas to afford my indulgences

Saharafordessert · 07/06/2020 10:55

My horse and all of the associated costs!
Wouldn’t have it any other way though 😀

PopsicleHustler · 07/06/2020 10:56

I'm a major chocolate addict but I have cut down loads but love to treat myself here and there. My problem is icecream and Cadbury dairy milk.

Also love a good chinese takeaway.

Treat myself to some nice clothes and makeup here and there.
I just recently bought myself some dresses off Ebay. Absolutely gutted when I got them. Cheap trashy material. And completely different material descriptions on dress and on ebay. Its happened to me before so definitely won't be shopping on ebay again. I think a lot of people buy chinese clothing and then sell them off as they're own.

I also love to treat myself and to my children to arts and crafts materials. And I am sucker for a nice notepad .

Cheered to see so many other nutters wasting their money on horses 😂

MrsExpo · 07/06/2020 11:01

Another horse owner here .... keeping it on full livery at a good livery yard so I don't actually have to any of the hard work, is an indulgence on top of an indulgence.

S0faSurfer592 · 07/06/2020 11:02

Holidays
Hobbies

Lemonyfuckit · 07/06/2020 11:10

(Pre-Covid) - travel: business flights and nice hotels
And food - we eat well, and again, pre-Covid liked to go to good restaurants every now and again. Now all our money seems to be going on the weekly Ocado and extra ground coffee and coffee pods!
We both enjoy cooking, but boy am I fed up of cooking every meal at home.
Loving seeing everyone's hobbies and indulgences.
We are currently saving for our wedding and live in an expensive area; the plan for next year is to move, and looking forward to having a bit more cash to spend on other things.

Wallywobbles · 07/06/2020 11:24

@notheragain4 the trick is to make your forever home suitable for you in your 80s. So downstairs bedroom and bathroom etc for you. We moved when kids were young teens so didn't need us on the same floor. And we always think about wheelchair access should it ever become necessary.

Big expenses for us are renovating our 14th c home - not touched for 100+ years. Every building has had to be rebuilt. Luckily all done by DH but roofs are not cheap.

Horses - but live at home and cheap models but training is costly and we normally travel with them when we can. We have a tiny lorry.

The cleaner is v v expensive but a great pleasure.

Travel with 4 kids v expensive too.

Food and wine budget is v high too.

sixthtimelucky · 07/06/2020 11:42

Looking at these answers I realise I indulge in so many of these things and I'm always saying I barely spend anything on myself!! I've been living a lie I tell you!

Nails
Wine
Meals out
Takeways
Clothes
Yoga
Gym
Nice car
Hair
Beauty
Coffee shop coffees

The only thing I don't spend much on is holidays, not that fussed. Happy to go to a budget hotel abroad or non-snazzy cottage in UK.

ITonyah · 07/06/2020 11:47

I am so unbelievably jealous 😐

GreenTeaMug · 07/06/2020 12:00

I'm loving seeing peoples indulgences also.

megletthesecond · 07/06/2020 12:02

Disposable contact lenses.
Gym membership. A fab local authority sports centre.

Greyscreendream · 07/06/2020 12:36

A cleaner
A lady who does all the tricky ironing bits once a month (I detest ironing shirts)
A 90 minute full body massage every 6 weeks....

Magickl · 07/06/2020 12:39

Weekends away in nice hotels.
Coffee shops.
Nice clothes.
Yoga classes.
Husband plays an expensive sport.

blueshoes · 07/06/2020 13:48

notheragain4 going to work now seems like a luxury but your dcs will not need childcare soon and you will be quids in having gained seniority and experience. It is a luxury AND and investment Smile.

Totally agree about using childcare and taking a day off when the dcs were little. That was lush.

Oblomov20 · 07/06/2020 14:00

I feel really sad. And cross with myself. All these posters who make these things a priority.
I spend a lot each week on wine and food. A rare eyelash tint. But other than that I barely spend anything.

I will take some notes and try and implement some of these things listed.

SionnachRua · 07/06/2020 14:04

Pole dancing. God, the outfits alone eat up a fair chunk of cash! Then you add in classes, private sessions, open training, gym work, show and competition gear (along with makeup etc for said performances)...

I also love massages. I like scented candles too but I go for the Aldi Jo Malone knock offs so I feel that that isn't too bad Smile

SionnachRua · 07/06/2020 14:06

Forgot to add gaming. I do buy in the sales but I like Nintendo, which is always a bit more expensive. I definitely get more value for money out of it than I would movies or TV though.

isseywith4vampirecats · 07/06/2020 14:11

our motorbike is not cheap but does give a gateway to a certain lifestyle with lots of social activities and meeting friends,
big band rock gigs eyewatering prices now for a night out but worth every penny
holidays but don't go to very expensive locations more middle road

Zenithbear · 07/06/2020 14:12

Holidays - we have one long haul, a couple of city breaks, 3 or 4 festivals, a cruise at least every year plus our own holiday cottage.
Motorbikes.
Gym membership but actually works out pretty cheap for the amount I normally use it.
Nice clothes.
We spend a lot of money on going out.
We don't spend much on acquiring stuff.
Minimum spend on beauty, hair etc.

Juststopit · 07/06/2020 14:14

Another one saying horse! I love every minute I spend with him and he keeps me fit ( and broke).

BikeRunSki · 07/06/2020 14:15

Bikes, and everything that goes with them
Also decent outdoor gear
