Is it possible to have successful personal training via Zoom/WhatsApp etc?

I had been enjoying regular personal training sessions before lockdown. Then my trainer left the company and I decided to continue with her colleague. However he will still be charging the same to work out via Zoom/Facetime etc (£65) but I just don't think it could be as effective as he can't completely see if his client is doing the exercises correctly.

I hoped to exercise in my local park where it would be possible to socially distance. However he says his wife is pregnant and he doesn't want to risk it.

Has anyone had a successful experience being trained virtually?

Define successful?

I've been "seeing" my trainer on Zoom since lockdown started. It's more restrictive given I have limited weights, but it's a very effective workout.

That said, I've been seeing him for the best part of a decade, so he knows what I'm god/bad at. He does correct me, and also gives instructions but can relate it to something we've done face to face before.

I can't say I've gained strengthwise but I am very grateful to be keeping on track.

My husband is a personal trainer - he has been doing Zoom sessions and not outdoor 1-1s during lockdown.

For clients who have equipment at home, he charged his usual price for 1 hour. For those who don’t have equipment, he did a reduced rate and did 45-min body weight sessions. He is now meeting those who feel comfortable with it in parks and taking equipment, wiping it all down before and after use etc. It has certainly been successful - one client has actually lost 10kg during lockdown!!

This is what I’d be expecting from a PT!

*now outdoor, not ‘not’!

My personal trainer is amazing. He's transformed me over the past six years.

Without him, I would have struggled with the current situation: My training keeps me well.

He uses Zoom and is doing me two x 40 min sessions per week, as ooposed to the usual one hour per week: same price.

It works too well. If I pick up some lighter dumbbells - cos I feel a bit out of sorts - he's on it straight away. He can see my technique too as he corrects any errors.

I owe him big time Blush
