Friends I would assume to have some intelligence and commonsense (professional qualifications and jobs), are reposting the stupid so called Currys post for a free TV over and over tonight in the hopes of 'winning' it.

Maybe I just need new friends?

What's the problem with this? If you're suggesting that all Facebook competitions must be fake then you're mistaken, I've won many over the years from both large companies and small businesses.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/06/2020 18:46

Yanbu it takes seconds to check - people are silly

vanillandhoney · 05/06/2020 18:46

Plenty of those are real, you know that right? They're a way of getting people to like and share their pages - free publicity and advertising.

Bargainhuntbore · 05/06/2020 18:56

Plenty are real.
Plenty are not.

There is no Ford Focus ST line
No tv from Currys.

Gullible

Hugglespuffed · 05/06/2020 19:00

Do you think they are all fake? Because I can assure you they aren't.

AnnieCartwright · 05/06/2020 19:00

Most are not real though. The so-called Currys page should be Currys PCWorld. Only takes a second to Google.

Its up there with the crying baby at the side of the road warnings and missing dogs from the other side of the world from 4 years ago.

Ive won 3 comps on FB. Local (to me) things like a framed photo, race entry and a pair of earrings.

But there are these scammers who “giveaway” 2 weeks in St Tropez/Christmas in New York/range rovers...... they do not exist. There are seriously some fools out there

Marriedtoapenguin · 05/06/2020 19:05

I've just seen one of the 'Currys' giveaways. It's got that single post only. You have to ask for the website. It's so clearly fake.

It's the same with the we've ordered too many caravans posts which follow the same modus operandi.

LochJessMonster · 05/06/2020 19:07

It’s the ones that start ‘the previous winner was underage so couldn’t claim the prize...’ and the page has only just been created.
So obviously fake.
No one is giving away cars or luxury holidays or iPads that can’t be sold because they were boxed wrong.
It’s embarrassing when friends share it.

Sparklesocks · 05/06/2020 19:07

I’ve seen one that is something like ‘virgin holiday’ with the virgin holidays logo claiming they’re giving away £1m worth of free holidays. I mean £1m, really?? And at the moment where many travel agents are on the brink of bust??

AnnieCartwright · 05/06/2020 19:10

I do know of a coupe of friends who have won FB stuff, but they're relatively small things from local bespoke businesses.

I didn't realise from your OP that you were talking about a fake page, I thought you just didn't believe FB competitions were legit. In that case YANBU.

AnnieCartwright · 05/06/2020 19:29

Sorry, yes I could have been clearer on reading it back.

slashlover · 05/06/2020 19:30

I've seen ones for Tesco vouchers but when you go into the page transparency part it shows you that the page was previously called 'ASDA vouchers'.

DieSchottin93 · 05/06/2020 19:31

The fake pages are soooo obvious yet so many people fall for them 🤦🏻‍♀️ For one the grammar is often terrible and secondly if they only took a few seconds to go onto the page and look at the "page transparency" bit they'd see it was created the day before or something and they have little to no other posts....it's a shame people fall for these things.

slashlover · 05/06/2020 20:02

This is the sort of thing OP is talking about. Just shared by a friend on FB.

@slashlover it looks like someone took that picture in their garage Grin

ViciousJackdaw · 05/06/2020 20:18

There is no Ford Focus ST line

There is, I've been driving one for the past 18 years.

Imonaplane · 05/06/2020 20:32

I think the PP is referring to the fake page offering a car as a prize.

Bargainhuntbore · 05/06/2020 22:52

@ViciousJackdaw 🙄

In competitions.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/06/2020 23:05

You may all scoff but The Rock has just personally invited me to enter his free cash giveaway.

What with that and my free £75 Asda voucher I'm all set
