Deserted test centre

Has anyone else experienced this? I fill in the CV-19 Zoe app thing daily and I’ve been a bit under the weather so was sent a link to book a test.

Got a test same day, within half an hour if I wanted.

Got there. I was early and it was deserted. Capacity of 2,500 per day but seeing between 2-300 people per day.

Where are all the test numbers coming from???

The rest of the country?

TheFlis12345 · 05/06/2020 16:35

We got tested in south London a couple of weeks ago and it was really quiet. My family are in Buckinghamshire and said it was when they went as well.

Pippa12 · 05/06/2020 16:39

The capacity is there, but they can’t make people take the test. It’s obvious it easy to obtain.

inlectorecumbit · 05/06/2020 16:39

Glasgow airport test centre is almost deserted. I live beside it and have never seen more than 2 cars in at any time.

TooTiredTodayOk · 05/06/2020 16:41

I live 2 mins away from a test centre, walk past it with my dog twice a day, I have never seen anyone other than the staff there.

I have a friend who has started a job with track and trace, she has yet to do any actual work. She is literally being paid for doing nothing.

TheHighestSardine · 05/06/2020 16:43

I took a test two weeks ago when I was presenting with a few symptoms. Could take the test in the next half hour slot. Negative came back in two days.

The drive-through was not busy. Two entryways, one other car, I saw two other cars during the faff of taking the swabs etc. Clearly set up for at least five times that.

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 05/06/2020 16:44

I had a test in Lanarkshire 2 weeks ago. Was only me and one other car there, loads of army personnel standing about doing nothing.

Singlebutmarried · 05/06/2020 16:45

There were 6 bays set up. I was the only one there.

Those are the manned bays.

There was another set for DIY swabs. No one there either.

I wouldn't want to administer that test on myself if that's what they're doing at them. I wouldn't do it correctly.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 05/06/2020 16:47

This doesn't surprise me. So few people in country now have the virus, these places are fast becoming redundant.

ListeningQuietly · 05/06/2020 16:49

I pass one on my way home from work every day.

It was initially set up with 6 tunnels and capacity for several hundred cars at once.

It is now one tunnel and capacity for around 200 cars

have NEVER seen more than three cars there other than the VERY bored staff

jomaIone · 05/06/2020 17:03

I imagine most of the figures are coming from care homes and hospitals where most of the cases are now. The community infection level is very low.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 05/06/2020 17:12

I've recently taken a test but tbh I didn't know I could. I'm not religiously watching the news so guess I've missed it but I honestly didn't know they were testing joe public

ListeningQuietly · 05/06/2020 17:13

jomalone
The test centre I pass is meant to cover NHS and care staff for this whole part of the country

jomaIone · 05/06/2020 17:16

I don't mean staff, I mean patients!

Juliet2014 · 05/06/2020 17:17

Or take it at face value - people aren’t having symptoms!

NorthDowns · 05/06/2020 17:20

I got a test last week, Glasgow Airport, absolutely deserted & appointments available immediately on the day.

GrimmsFairytales · 05/06/2020 17:20

The one near me is also very quiet. There have been days when the number of staff has exceeded the total number of people tested that day.

It's madness to have so many people working there, when there's very little work to do.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/06/2020 17:23

odd that the Zoe app sent you for a test - I didn't know they did that!

I've been once last month - started with a persistent cough that lasted through the night and did the 111 online thing - that linked to a call from a Dr -advised to have a test as DD is a key worker (I'm working at home) - went online at 11:30 and was driving in at 12:15 - totally deserted - self swabbed (lovely!) home by 1 - results 48 hours later - negative

But I'd ONLY go if I had symptoms - Temp, Cough, loss of taste/smell, etc.

Tonii1985 · 05/06/2020 17:23

I did my test at home, delivered and collected by courier. Most people probably do that?

ghostyslovesheets · 05/06/2020 17:23

that was the NEC Birmingham

VenusTiger · 05/06/2020 17:36

I thought you could have home tests now?

ListeningQuietly · 05/06/2020 17:38

All NHS and care staff should be being tested REGULARLY to track infection rates.

At least 0.1% of the population should be being tested every week to track the infection

but the UK is utterly failing at Test Trace Track Treat

nellodee · 05/06/2020 17:39

I got a test 3 weeks ago, but it had to be done 30 miles away. On my way there, I passed a test very local to me that was sat completely empty. Apparently it was reserved for NHS staff only, so even though it was completely underused, I still had to drive to the neighbouring city to get mine.
