How likely is it I'm pregnant?

I would say very unlikely, but have a really weird feeling about this. I have a 7 month old, who I breastfeed. Before him I was on the combined pill for 10 years and I've only had one period since he was born - probably around a month ago? This is the thing - I honestly can't remember anything at the moment. I've had such brain fog and mixed emotions lately.

We have only had sex twice since giving birth about a month ago and used condoms both times. As I haven't been off the pill in so long I have no idea what my periods are like or how anything feels. The last few days I've felt so tired, a bit dizzy and spaced out and really emotional. Last night I had this sudden thought that I'm pregnant and can't get it out of my head.

Is it normal for periods to be this irregular after a baby? It'll be about a month and a half since my first one. And do condoms fail that easily?

yes or no? I've ordered a test in the post.

(If I'm not, some weird pmt going on!)

I'm in exactly the same situation as you! I have read periods can be irregular if your still breast feeding, which I am. I would love to be pregnant again but I think it's far more likely it just messed up periods in my case. If it doesn't come next month I'll take a test.

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/06/2020 20:09

It's possible, but unlikely. You used condoms, and if your last period was around a month ago and you had sex around that time, it is unlikely to have been around ovulation. However, only a pregnancy test is going to tell you for sure.
Its more likely your period is about to start.

I guess we'll find out soon enough!

This is far too short an age gap for what we wanted, but couldn't help but also feel really excited.

Highly unlikely. Get your iron level tested maybe you are anaemic.

Alyssum34456 · 04/06/2020 20:11

@baby I am wondering that too

I breastfeed. My first period was at 6 months post partum. It was 49 days to the next one, 42 days to the one after that, 40, 38, 35 and then they settled to roughly 32 days. It is unlikely if you used a condom properly and periods do tend to be irregular for a while but if you are going to be stressed about it the only way to put your mind at rest is to do a test.

I got pregnant when my first child was 7 months old - I was b/f and we used condoms. I had the same kind of feelings you described, and kind of knew it was pregnancy and not anything else. I wasn't excited, I was terrified when I saw that second line appear on the stick! But actually it was fantastic, having two little boys so close in age.

Alyssum34456 · 04/06/2020 20:34

@magnolia wow! Did you notice the condom split? Ours seemed ok but tbh I didn't really look too deeply. I was a bit unsure the second time but then realised it was probably lubricant. I think what's weird is I had that same eyes flicked open at midnight moment that I had with my current baby (although we were trying with him!)

At first I was really upset at the thought but now the idea is growing on me.

As in eyes opened and I was suddenly wide awake with the idea and couldn't say how I knew

I was end my 2nd boy and found out I was pregnant when he was 3 months old. No periods at all and used a condom. It definitely happens! They’re 10&11 now and super close

Knoxinbox · 04/06/2020 20:39

Condoms are only about 80% effective in their own. 20/100 women a year will become pregnant using condoms alone. If your periods have come back, you are ovulating and BF is not offering any protection.

The only way to know is to take a test! Good luck

Got pregnant at 7mths after my first, currently feeding my 2nd to sleep as I type Grin

I had two periods between Stopping breastfeeding and falling pregnant - I wasn’t on the pill but was monitoring cycle. Clearly my body wasn’t back to regular patterns and I must have ovulated later than expected.

The way I knew was similar to your explanation, I was just so tired. On the 2nd or 3rd day of being knackered I took a nap with DC at lunchtime and it wad the first time I’d done it since he was newborn and I remember saying to DP - I’m so tired I feel like I’m pregnant.

Went to Asda, bought a test and 9 mths later popped out a baby.

It’s hard but absolutely wouldn’t change it now

Talulahoopla · 04/06/2020 21:40

My sister and I are just 10 months apart. We're incredibly close and good friends. I imagine my mum found it hard at times but there are definitely benefits. I'd love to have two so close together having grown up like that. Not sure what DP would think of that though 😂

cockcrowfarm · 05/06/2020 06:04

My periods just arrived now, so that was 43 days cycle for me.

namechanging2020 · 05/06/2020 06:36

I am currently 6 months pregnant and have a 12 month old. Was bfing exclusively when got pregnant. Although we weren't using condoms though so you would think that should have done the trick if used properly.

Alyssum34456 · 05/06/2020 13:44

think AF may have arrived. Why am I disappointed? Shock

Because you want another child. And there is absolutely no reason on earth you won't have one when the time is right.
