How can I attend a funeral a long way away from where I live? Too far to drive there and back in one day. Is there a way?

Errr drive there and stay over?

When my parents did it last week they stayed in my brother's house - he is staying at his girlfriends for the lockdown so no one had been in. My BiL and family did the same at MILs house for FIL's funeral in April - she's been staying with us for the duration.
However we also had BIL stay with us when he visited when their dad died - he stayed the night he died as too far to go in one day. We figured it was a risk we were willing to take as we'd all been socially distancing before hand.

Is there anyone who would be relatively low risk you can stay with?

Alternatively there may be the option to attend the funeral virtually.
My nana's funeral was broadcast online which we had a link too.

I went to one two days ago, and they did a live link, close family went in, and the rest watched from outside or in their own homes, it was certainly different, but it meant we could all be there, some way or another. Is something like this possible maybe?? X

Apologies OP, just realised its not that easy to "stay over" at the moment. I'm being a bit dim today. I'd forgotten about it all for a moment there.

Unless you can find a hotel accepting non-critical worker guests, I don’t think there is a way you can do it and stay within the guidance. Sorry for your loss

I'll ask if it is being streamed. I'll also ask if they know of anywhere appropriate to stay over.

My mum's funeral was webcast - not my choice, obviously. But it worked really well, and lots of people attended from afar who wouldn't otherwise have been there, and it was recorded and I have got great comfort from watching it again. Can you get in touch with the funeral director and ask if they have access to recording?

At the briefing the other day I am sure they said an exception to the not staying at someone else’s home was for funerals so if there is someone who can put you up then could that be an option?

Ooo Sirzy really?? I'll check that out. I've missed that announcement. Maybe I can go. I'm the healthiest and at least risk from our family, so I'd like to go if possible.
