Being made redundant

I've had the call from work to being made redundant but I've been asked to think about any other role I could do within the business. Other people have also been made redundant so any other role I could do, people have been made redundant from so I don't get it?

I'm sorry to hear that. That's very odd. It's not really your job to reshuffle yourself into another role. How many people are being made redundant? If it's more than 20 there is supposed to be a consultation whereby you all propose alternatives so I wonder if this is a half arsed attempt at that.

Just think about the other roles in the company and whether or not you’re able to do them. If you can do them, pitch yourself in those roles.

Thanks for your replies. Every department has been affected apparently so I'm pitching for another role that someone has been made redundant from?

It's usual that as part of a consultancy process they look at redeployment. Can HR provide you a copy of open roles and upcoming roles, they would usually give priority for people at risk of redundancy.

Op. Clearly it’s to do a role that still exists. That has not been made redundant. Obviously not every role has been made redundant,

As such, just say what kind of role you think you could do. Role that still exists.

Have you not received anything in writing from the company? Is the call not just a preliminary warning before the letter arrives which should clarify what the process is? I'm sorry you have lost your job, it's a horrible feeling.

I was made redundant in January. I suggested a role. I was told there was "no requirement for the role".

They were interviewing for the exact role in March. Cunts.

When DH was made redundant (along with 500 colleagues) the company offered him and others their old jobs back on short-term 3 month contracts , at half the previous pay and of course no benefits like paid leave, company pension etc.

This happened with my husband in April . American company with international bases, made various redundancies throughout company including here in UK. Basically they want you to either find another role within company or offer to take massive paycut to keep your current role. Its quite common in the states. Husbands company have kept him hanging until today before finally sending email confirming redundancy and terms /payment. Sorry this has happened to you today.

Thanks for your replies. There literally aren't any other roles available and she confirmed there were cuts taking part in every department.
