I've been bit!

Some arsehole has bit me!

Its sore and incredibly itchy. The skint around it is swollen and hard/tight. Any ideas what kind of bite this is? What can I put on it that might soothe it?

Any anti histimine (sp?) should help.

No antihistamine but I'm pretty sure we have some hydrocortisone somewhere in the cupboard?

Horse fly? Are the bites quite big in area and swollen. I got bit by horseflies one a walk the other day and they itches like crazy, they are a size of my palm swelled up around them.

We have a little yellow clicky thing, meant for mosquito bites I think but I use it on any bite and it helps a bit.

Do you have Sudocrem? That literally cures everything in this house, even broken bones

Google pictures of Blandford fly bites they are prevalent at this time of the year.

Usually near to waterways (rivers, brooks, streams).

Take a double dose of anti histamines for the first day just to try to keep the swelling down and minimise itching.

Probably a bastard horse fly. I lost 3-1 to them last night - I killed 3 but 1 bit me . I've used antihistamine cream and calamine lotion for the itching.

I've been bitten on my neck and the crooks of my elbows.

Small but very itchy.

How is it you never see what bites you, just the resulting lumps?

Happened about 4/5 days ago and they're being to go now thankfully.

I second the sudocreme suggestion. It’s great for bites/burns/topical rashes.

I wouldn't put sudocrem on a bad bite. Hydrocortisone is the only thing I'd put on it, unless you have anthisan (I sometimes alternate hydrocortisone and anthisan every few hours for a really bad bite).
If you can get an oral antihistamine tomorrow that will also help, worth asking the pharmacist which is best as some are less effective than others for bites.

I just got bit too! I thought the dog had fleas and checked everything but even my paranoid brain realised she's not likely to get them during lockdown!

Lavender or tea tree pure essential oil always sorts out my bites. I just apply a small amount, undiluted and it brings it right down.

My suggestion is Germolene, and an anti-histamine. And a G+T.

It contains a mild anaesthetic that really stops itching.

And as it's a barrier cream, if you happen to get bitten on the hands I find it holds up to all the extra hand washing/sanitising we're doing now without washing off.
