Name changed as I don't want this to be linked to my other posts.

My partner had planned to move in for a few months, until his new place is ready. He's continued to work through lockdown. As such, I'd arranged all the logistics for the move for him (I'm self employed and wfh).

Yesterday, we were talking over the move and the subject of store openings came up. His stance was that he doesn't believe in Covid, the usual conspiracy theories came out. I usually love hearing these and debating with him, but this time I was not on board. We argued after I asked he respect my wishes to adhere to government guidelines and that we reach a concensus as to what we felt safe doing, (regardless of his disbelief of the virus), as a family (I have a DS).

He accused me of being 'as bad as the government' and that he will call off the move.

I'm pretty stoic about it. I won't risk my child for anyone, but I am wondering if I'm being OTT?

@jgjgjgjgjg he actually believes covid is a conspiracy. Along the lines of create discourse amongst a whole society in order that they accept a new norm, a new social control.

He is a very clever guy, the alternate news can be enlightening in contrast to mainstream media. I'm not on board with a lot of what is said, but each to their own. It makes for fun conversation.

@Marzipancake like I say, each to their own. My own is not to take unnecessary risks. I'm high risk and I don't need to be at the pub door as soon as it opens.

I can't tolerate the lack of respect, like many of you say 💐

@BobbieDraper that is spot on and did make me laugh. We have re-evolved though, the earth is back to round!

@Marzipancake I think most people would agree there’s a middle ground between ‘believing everything the government say without a second thought’ and ‘refusing to believe in a deadly virus killing hundreds of thousands across the world’.

BumbleBeee69 · 03/06/2020 22:44

He's trying to dictate what goes on in your home

This... plus he's a dick... thank goodness you realised before he moved in Flowers

billy1966 · 03/06/2020 22:47

OP, do you really think you should be bringing in a paroid idiot into your home, who clearly has zero respect for your safety.

I would imagine that conversation with him would be both tedious and exhausting.

He sounds like an idiot OP.

Sorry!

BobbieDraper · 03/06/2020 22:52

He might be "clever" but that doesnt make him good clever, and he clearly isnt very good at critical thinking or application of sense.

Smart people who dedicate their brain power to complete and utter nonsense are more dangerous that stupid people who do the same. You have a son... do you want him growing up and arguing with his history and science teachers because "those things never happened".

IncrediblySadToo · 03/06/2020 22:56

He accused you of being 'as bad as the govt' & called off the move.

Twat. You're 'high risk' and doesn't respect your (sane) view that Covid is a risk.

He's a stupid, selfish, moron. You can do MUCH better.

Make sure he reimbursed you for any costs you've incurred te the move.

Finish with him properly - find someone who is a little more caring and a lot more sane

DamnYouAutoCabbage · 03/06/2020 22:58

I know I need to get rid. I knew it the minute he refused to compromise.

I have to admit, this covid theory has opened my eyes to the fact that everything from his viewpoint has to be critical, against the grain. An argument!

OP posts:
EloiseTheFirst · 03/06/2020 23:00

How can he not believe in covid? I've had it and believe me - it's very real. And very unpleasant.

I could never be with someone so stupid.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/06/2020 23:07

Not everyone believes what the government say, it’s fair to say they don’t always speak the truth! And the reasons for the governments instructions may not be as clear cut as they are made out to be. So people should be entitled to question the government and their motives. Or should no one oppose what they are told in newspapers, media?

Of course you don’t have to blindly believe every newspaper story ever. That’s very different to dismissing a global pandemic as a conspiracy. How do these conspiracy theorists explain the fact that countries on opposite sides of wars are reporting Coronavirus cases? The governments of these countries are ready to go to war, but they’ll quite happily cooperate to perpetuate this lavish worldwide fiction?

BobbieDraper · 03/06/2020 23:12

This thread has reminded me of someone! I met a guy at uni; he was a sculptor and seemed really intelligent, very knowledgable about art. I always loved art but I was studying science (family pressure.... I now work in the arts so that's all good now) so I was slightly enamoured by him. Then i saw him share an event his was attending om facebook... for flat earthers and omg, it was like a shutter coming down and a while feeling of "eugh" for about a week! Yuck.

TinyPigeon · 03/06/2020 23:18

Red flags for days! Why would you be organising all of his move for him just because you WFH? That's aside from his belligerence and disregard for your health.

Cherrysoup · 03/06/2020 23:25

I’m pissing myself! Does he think the govt are throwing out number of deaths and making videos of the dying nurse etc for some weird conspiracy reason? Like what? The whole world has shut down because of some conspiracy? I’m sorry, I couldn’t take him seriously, zero respect for his stupidity.

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/06/2020 23:33

"My partner had planned to move in for a few months, until his new place is ready."

So you were doing him a favour? And he repays your kindness by being disrespectful and cavalier about your health. Fuck him, you don't need this crap, I'd bin him.
