So I have 12 yr old who plays fortnite in his room - just started two weeks ago. I also have a 7 yr old and a 9 yr old at home. Me and dh looked the the game, played battle royal and said no to the younger ones playing it. However the 9 yr olds friends all seem to be playing it online and talking together. I'm really not happy as dont like the fact the way game characters crawl around floor when shot and encourage each other to shoot them in the head etc. I really dont want 9 yr old playing it bit it's the way all his friends seem to be socialising at the moment in lockdown

I let DS play from about 9, mainly because his friends were and I didn't want him left out. Maybe you could give him a trial? So he can play for a month in the knowledge if his behaviour becomes a problem or he refuses to get off it when you say so he loses the privilege.
