I agree that it's pretty pointless on Facebook but that's not really what it is. It stemmed from the artistic community, especially the black artistic community withdrawing their art (music, dance, poetry etc) for the day.

It's got the hashtag #theshowmustbepaused. Wtaf.

I did not know it had those meaningful roots XX I should've looked it up.

Its been massively misunderstood, that’s the problem. It was never about protest, or silence. It was for people to pause their own concerns for a bit ( and, originally, specifically business interests) to centre and promote black creatives and businesses and to promote education around the issues.

I meant to say creative business interests - music performances etc.

All the black artists I know both online and in real life have cancelled classes, streamings and any output today. Most posted about it yesterday and have been totally silent today.

I'd say now would be a good time to use the hashtag to do some research OP. It's annoying that a number of virtue signallers have hijacked it but the sentiment it originated from is important.
