To ask which supermarket own brand products you prefer VS proper brands

I've recently changed from using Fairy non bio washing powder and Lenor fabric conditionet to Tesco non bio and their fabric conditioner. Tesco wins hands down with the washing result and has a lovely fragrance and also costs a fraction of the leading brands in comparison! Which supermarket products do you recommend that are actually better and saves money? I'm asking as a friend said today she'd never buy own brands as they're not as good quality!

I by far prefer the ASDA equivalent to special k / special k with berries - nicer texture and flavour in my opinion. Also have no qualms with own label washing products and cleaning products - I'll usually go with the cheapest variant unless the branded one is on offer at the equivalent price,,,,

BlueRaincoat1 · 01/06/2020 20:07

Tesco finest sea salt and black pepper crisps. £1 for a big bag, and much nicer than big brands.

BlueRaincoat1 · 01/06/2020 20:08

Also Tesco fruit and fibre is half the price and just as nice, with less sugar, than the Kellogs one.

Sh05 · 01/06/2020 20:25

Recently I tried Morrisons own brand frozen chips, they turn out really nice and crispy, both the straight ones and curly ones. Only got them because MC Cain were out of stock but they really surprised me at a fraction of the price.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 01/06/2020 20:27

Tesco’s creamfields cheeses are delicious

TeeniefaeTroon · 01/06/2020 20:28

Asda Diet Coke and Asda bakes beans.

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/06/2020 20:30

Sainsbury's ketchup is very tomatoey, I've stopped buying Heinz.0

Lidl Nougat Pillows came first and are a million times better than those Krave knock-off versions.

Wowjustwow99 · 01/06/2020 20:30

Sainsbury tomato sauce is nicer than the branded ones.
We also fond Lidl nappies better than any other brand Smile

Zisforstripyoss · 01/06/2020 20:48

Waitrose basic chopped tomatoes are nicer than anything i've ever tried.

Morrisons weetabix are nicer than branded.

FOJN · 01/06/2020 20:51

SpnBaby1967 · 01/06/2020 20:53

Oh loads!

Most tesco own brand cereal is much nicer than branded and with a fraction of the sugar.

Tesco ketchup

Tesco creamfields cheese is divine.

Also the tesco veggie mince is much nicer than Quorn and doesnt break down like branded names.

ChilliCheese123 · 01/06/2020 20:54

The Co-OP’s own Tortilla Chips shit all over Doritos

Tesco's summer fruits squash VS Robinson's squash

Floralnomad · 01/06/2020 20:56

Tesco gluten free bagels are much nicer than Warburton gf bagels . We also use Kirkland dishwasher tablets ( Costco own brand ) .

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/06/2020 20:58

Aldi washing tablets
Not exactly own-brand, but mornflake oats are tons better than Quaker oats and about half the price. I bought Quaker oats as I was running out at the start of lockdown, and all I could find - I was so pleased when I got to the end of them and back to mornflake ones.

Poundland eyeliner is brilliant.

Nottherealslimshady · 01/06/2020 20:59

Asdas more expensive brand tinned sweetcorn is miles better than green giant. I prefer brands for everything else I think. I think it's mostly about the consistency. All store brands are different to eachother but Branson beans are the same no matter where you buy them.

PurBal · 01/06/2020 21:00

Depends on the product tbh.

TrulyOutrageousJem · 01/06/2020 21:04

M&S style Jaffa cakes

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 01/06/2020 21:05

Tescos own weetabix. Exactly the same more than half the price.

BlueBooby · 01/06/2020 21:06

I've always preferred Tesco's yeast extract to marmite.

Grumpos · 01/06/2020 21:10

Greek yoghurt - Aldi version (Brooklea is it?) is just as good as Fage.

In fact any supermarket brand Greek yoghurt I’ve tried (aldi, Lidl, Tesco, morrisons & M&S food) are all as good as Fage.

So I generally buy whatever is on the best offer. But if no offers then own brand is perfectly acceptable.
