To find this really irritating

I wear make up, I have done since my teens and I am now on my 40s.

Has been a bit weird wearing make up so little in lockdown but sometimes I put it on even if I am not going out and especially if I have a meeting using video.

My friends and family tease me about it but it’s loving and I just laugh too as it’s “my thing”. I don’t go anywhere without it on (bar swimming) and this really isn’t an issue for me I am absolutely fine with it.

Joking with a colleague (someone I line manage) about not doing video chat as I have no make up on and shes like “oh I used to be like you but I hardly wear any make up now” and now every time the subject of video chat comes up she pressures me to stop wearing make up. I have explained this is just who I am and this isn’t an issue but she bangs on and on like it’s some “problem” to be overcome and I “really should try it”

AIBU to just want to tell her to fuck off 🤣

Very annoying. I've not left the house without make up since I was 15 and will often wear it even when I'm not going anywhere. She's probably jealous.

Does she wear a bra? Does she brush hee hair? Does she shave her armpits?!

Wearing make-up is the same sort of personal choice linked to appearance as any of the above. Maybe you should suggest she stops doing one of those!

I wear make up most days, a full face, always have, always will. I find most people I work with don't wear it but it doesn't bother me that I do.

I sometimes think some people think there is something wrong with you if you have to cover your face in make up but like above poster says it's personal choice, just like shaving or not shaving, wearing heels or flats etc. I've had digs in the past as I like to wear heels and make up bit digs are never ever off people who also wear heels and make up, only the people who don't.

It's like someone tell you what not to wear, I will ignore her.

I’ve never worn make up; I don’t see the need. I very rarely think it makes anyone look better and I also think there must be self esteem issues if someone won’t go anywhere without make up.

I hear you OP. I did wonder how long it would be before someone came along to state that they never wear it and people who can’t leave the house without it have issues. You do you, I’ll do me!.

I saw a FB post recently where women were sharing& liking if they hadn't worn make up in weeks. What the heck is the bloody crime in wearing make up ?

I very rarely wear make up. She is completely unreasonable. I have friends who just dont feel dressed without their make up. Their choice is equally valid as mine. And doesn't affect anyone else. She deserves to be told to fuck off though I dont recommend this obviously

Maybe you could ask if she has a problem with you wearing make up.

DP has talked me out of wearing make up every day while I'm wfh. I don't like how I look without it and he says I'm being silly. Then when I put some on at the weekend he says "you look nice"

@heartsonacake. No self esteem issues here, but nice generalisation.

Until March I had never gone to work without makeup on. The only reason I stopped is I have been working in intensive care with covid patients and it melted with the heat and the mask I had to wear and so I could wash my face regularly. I don’t feel like myself without makeup!

I love wearing make up - i like trying different looks.

YANBU, it's rude to comment on anyone's appearance (unless you have that relationship where your comfortable with joking with each other).

Although to try and be objective, do you often bring up your appearance? I ask because you say it's your 'thing'.

If you start every call with 'I'm not doing video today because I've got no make-up on' then it could get wearing for others.

I would no more go without make up than I would without underwear. I always put some on, even if alone, unless I'm poorly. I just feel better with some on, not loads just bb cream, mascara, blusher, plus lipgloss and eyeshadow if going out. Tell her to fuck off or suggest she stops wearing a bra. Or shoes.

I don't wear make up but I wouldn't dream of suggesting someone else shouldn't. Do what you're happy with.

I always, always wear foundation (it's my sunscreen! SPF 30!), blush and lip gloss.

If she says it again, say, "You already said that."
Her: "But you shoould totally go natural!"
You: "You already said that."
Her: "It was soooo freeing!"
You: "You already said that."

After a few exchanges like this, they usually stop yammering on about it.

See that's what annoys me people spouting that you must have self esteem issues or other issues if you wear make up every day. Erm nope no issues here I just like make up. I like the way it makes me look. I like experimenting with different colours but I also really like fashion so maybe that has something to do with it,
