An English school tweeted pic of large individual circle (with football in it) per child today.
I totally respect teachers maintaining a social distance as they are at higher risk of severe illness, but AIBU that kids having such strictly enforced distancing might not be in their best interest?

Is this the official advice for schools? Or an over-zealous interpretation? I've not been paying attention to the England school stuff as I'm in Scotland. Do they mean children are just meant to stand in their circles at playtime?

Bizarre behaviour from a school if true. It’s not official advice at all.

Our school widens it's access in a couple of week's time.
Children are in bubbles of around 10, maximum of 15. Each bubble has a classroom and an outdoor space. Within the bubbles the children are asked to keep their distance but there won't be social distancing really - not within their bubble.

Are you sure that’s in england? Official advice in England is that there’s no expectation primary age children will be socially distanced in school, as it’s unrealistic.

Our year 6 boys invented a new version of chase and catch that didn't involve chasing or catching! They ran around yelling and screaming as usual, the " tigger" then yelled stop, everyone froze and the " tigger" pretended to shoot anyone he was in a direct line with!
The girls sat round in a circle and chatted!

My children's school have drawn out spaces that the children have to stay within on the playground and allocated squares that parents have to stand in at collection

That image is surely a PE lesson, not playtime.

A private school doing PE on a huge playing field in their own space? I think the 11 year olds pictured looked absolutely fine.

It'll be like the pictures shared of a French school the other week, just intended to get a reaction or make people fear sending their kids back, in context it could have been absolutely anything, a game or teaching the kids in a fun way what 2m space looks like so they can be aware outside of school. Without context it's just a photo of nothing really.

The trouble with ball games is that children will handle the ball and pass it to another child who may well touch the ball too.
Our school has separate trays for each child and no one, not even staff are allowed to touch their things.

I think Year 6 are expected to try to socially distance from one another where possible.

It is in the youngest years the guidance says that this is unlikely to be possible.

But they shouldn't need individual circles and squares for each child to stay in.

It's over zealous. Our school is just giving each bubble a separate area, and not expecting the kids to socially distance.

I think you're overreacting.

Didn't most PE warm ups start by making sure kids each had their own bubble of space anyway? How many kids have been damaged by that?

This is just a more efficient way to do that and takes away the constant stress of trying to calculate distance and think about it all the time. Nobody is being electrocuted for stepping outside a bubble.

I am sure that is just a game, and the challenge will probably be to try and keep the ball in the circle.

I'm confused, is it your school or were you pretending it was?

Either way it's silly to judge anything on the basis of one photo, may be read the thread where posters are saying what a great day their children have had an how happy they are rather than looking for something negative.
