We bought a really great sofa bed from John Lewis three years ago. Because our flat is so small it is actually used as our primary living sofa too and has managed to survive everyday wear thus far.

My first sofa was from SCS but I found the sales people to be really pushy (I was young and shopping alone so felt very pushed into buying it was awful) so I refused to go there again.
My newest sofa is from sofology and it was a very good experience and my sofa is lovely

I used DFS for my first sofa and have just ordered another. I know they're mass production and into their credit plans, but I pay up front and find their sofas good quality. I'm taking the material insurance this time though as I've wrecked my current one with stains and even if they only fix it once or twice it will be worth the money.

Be wary of sofa beds if you're going to use it to actually sleep on. Most (if not all) are really uncomfortable. We bought an M&S one with a sprung mattress, and its still not pleasant to sleep on (need a mattress topper etc which isn't really great because sofa bed sizes are different to conventional mattress sizes). Its great as a sofa though.

Personally, I think I'd buy a lovely sofa and had a different solution for guests staying over etc if you need that option. If that isn't feasible, just choose the sofa bed that works best as a sofa as the bed part will all be much of a muchness.

Ginandbearit1 · 02/06/2020 10:09

M&S have been great for me and reasonably priced.

We bought a beautiful leather sofa bed from Bensons for Beds. It broke within two weeks, it took over a year to get a refund. A million forms, inspections, them saying they couldn't replace it because they no longer make it and it's out of stock, but we could purchase a new one online...honestly, a whole mess. Stay away.

Ahh, I wanted to post this question. Following with interest. I keep worrying about buying a sofa that the cushions keep falling off Grin

lovelyupnorth · 02/06/2020 10:44

We use local companies have had a sofa bed we brought 20 years ago and it’s still comfy.

Just ordered new sofa from a local company prices comparable with the big chains but supporting local jobs. Service has been a second to none. Dropping swatch books off at home etc.

Decided to try DFS 4 years ago. Was a bit worried what the quality would be like but have been very happy with it. I will go back to them in the future.

Happydaysforever123 · 02/06/2020 11:13

Go to the sofa.com showroom and try the sofa beds there for comfort, they are extremely helpful.
Our two sofas aren't sofa beds, but they are extremely comfortable and the cushions don't slip forward ever.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 02/06/2020 11:15

Nabru, but it's not going to suit everyone. I am really, really happy with the sofa we have from them though, and will use them again if we ever buy another sofa.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 02/06/2020 11:18

Imo the best sofa beds - I’d describe them as beds that can be used as a sofa - are from furl.com who have a showroom on the north circular. Pricey....but real sleeping apparatus.

squiglet111 · 02/06/2020 11:24

We were looking for sofas recently. We didn't find many sofas comfortable from the usual places, but in oak furniture land sofas were very comfortable. So ended up buying our sofa from there. Previous was from there also!

missanony · 02/06/2020 11:28

We’ve got dfs, scs & sofology! All have worn well. Their cheap ranges don’t last but that goes for anything really.

ThePants999 · 02/06/2020 12:08

I like the idea that "using a sofa company" is something I do on an ongoing basis. When I bought my sofa, 15 years ago, it was from DFS. So I've no idea what they're like today, but 15 years ago, they sold sofas that were good for at least 15 years Wink
