To phone 111 with weird new rash on adult?

I’m a worrier so expecting or hoping you all to tell me I need to calm down. My skin on my arm has suddenly come up with a rash and looks all mottled. Should I phone out of hours GP or wait until tomorrow to see GP or do nothing at all?

How do you feel? If you feel fine then I would wait for the GP, if you feel like something is wrong then call 111. One of the main reasons why you need to call so much for a child is that they can't adequately communicate how they're feeling

InvisibleWombat · 31/05/2020 16:40

My arm kind of hurts like a pinched nerve or something. Otherwise fine.

I would phone your GP if it's painful. How long has it been hurting for?

Moondust001 · 31/05/2020 16:53

It is probably nothing - there's a lot of sun / heat rashes around at the moment. But speak to your GP when you can, provided there are no other symptoms. If you start to feel dizzy or faint, weak, any breathing problems, feeling sick, or a rapid pulse, go straight to A&E and do not wait for a doctors appointment. It would still be not very likely to be serious, but it might be, and you'd be better safe than sorry.

InvisibleWombat · 31/05/2020 16:53

At first I was worried it was a coronavirus thing after reading it can be a symptom. Now after reading about mottled skin rashes I’m even more worried it could be something even worse. But I know I catastrophise when it comes to health and then I hate not being able to trust my own judgement. ☹️

@Moondust001 thank you that’s really helpful advice.

Does this kind of rash always mean small blood clots that’s all I can find Googling and it doesn’t seem to be improving at all. 😢

If you're worried, I'd call for advice. They can decide how serious it sounds and what you should do about it - otherwise, if you're anything like me, you're going to spend ages worrying and googling and worrying yourself further. If it's nothing serious, so much the better! But that's what they're there for, so you can check in case it is serious.

Thanks. I am going to worry but equally really don’t want to bother the out of hours service unless it’s urgent. I’m guessing it’s under a lot of strain right now.

Start of shingles?

simonisnotme · 31/05/2020 19:48

it might well be a sun rash, try an antihistamine and see if it calms down

Taken one but it didn’t make any difference. Thanks for the suggestion though.

when did you take it ?
it takes time to get into your system

InvisibleWombat · 31/05/2020 20:31

When I first noticed the rash.

It looks even worse when I look at it in a mirror. Like a collection of small bruises causing one dramatic bruise. I know I haven’t done anything to cause bruises though. The GP opens in 7 hours. I will feel better when I’ve asked someone about it.

Is it your inner arm?
A few years ago on a hot night like this I was asleep braless with my huge boobs sweating. I lay in a funny position and my boob that was against my inner arm as I lay on my side peeled away when I turned over and it stung at the time. When I looked in the morning it had bruised my inner arm!
The skin there is really sensitive.
Could that have possibly happened?

gluteustothemaximus · 01/06/2020 01:40

I would actually call 111. Rash on its own not so bad but you said rash with pain.

And antihistamines haven't worked. I would call to be on the safe side. Good luck x

thaegumathteth · 01/06/2020 01:50

I came out in this rash yday

Took an antihistamine and it went away the next day

My GP has a cool new system where you post a photo of your complaint and they phone you to discuss. Should have a call back at sometime today. Rash is still there but isn’t bigger and doesn’t hurt anymore. Weirdly my DS also has come up in the same rash but on the back of his hands/ wrists. I have also taken photographs of his rash and sent to GP. He says it doesn’t hurt or itch and he feels fine too.

GP called back. She has no idea what the rash is, as apparently it doesn’t fit with any rash type she’s aware of. Told me to call surgery on Thursday morning if it hasn’t faded (and before that if it spreads or I get other symptoms). She said they would do some blood tests. But what could they possibly be testing for?
