To ask for a second opinion

I have been suffering with very bad pain on my lower left hand side for the last 4 weeks. The doctor suspects diverticular disease and has prescribed antibiotics, lactulose and painkillers.
For the first week I was on oramorph which just knocked me out. I am now taking codeine and ibuprofen.
I am about to start the 4th week of antibiotics and this just doesn't seem right to me. Yes the pain is vaguely reducing but I see very little improvement.
I feel I should phone the doctors tomorrow and ask to speak to a different GP to get their take on it but I hate the thought of being difficult or taken as being confrontational.
Would I be unreasonable to request speaking to a different GP?

Yes - get a second opinion. That is an excessive use of medication, especially painkillers.
