Bloody wind chime.....

Neverendingweeds · 31/05/2020 10:01

I discovered yesterday after I kept hearing a very loud wind chime - that the neighbours behind us have attached a wind chime to the branch of one of OUR trees, a branch that overhangs into their garden slightly.

I don't have an issue with wind chimes as long as they aren't loud or near a boundary, but this is both!!

I don't think it's a passive aggressive move to highlight the fact the tree overhangs a bit as I have heard them saying how much they like the trees as it provides privacy (were new builds so had totally blank overlooked gardens when we first moved in).

However, I am not overly pleased they have attached it to our tree or that it's been placed right next to our fence so it's really noisy for us, but probably a pleasant background noise for them!!

Do I ask them to move it, smack it off the tree (could probably reach with a broom) or get out our MASSIVE bamboo wind chime that we were gifted but never used as it's really noisy (and we didn't want to annoy the neighbours) and stick it on the same tree -
Although it will still be closer to us than them.....

Opinions please!!

Talk to them next time you see them! I would hope they'd understand if you asked them to move it because they are so irritating sometimes a bit loud.

Or you could do some pruning of the tree and snip "oh gosh, oh my, I'm sorry, I pruned your windchime!"

talk to them

(and if that doesnt work, cut it off, and drop one at a time at their back door)

I wouldn’t mention it. I’d just take the chime down and post it through their letterbox.

If it found itself back onto the tree the chime would find itself in the bin.

I’m not sure why you are so upset that it’s on your tree. It’s hardly going to damage it.

Prune your tree so it doesn’t overhang into their garden.

According to the MN manual windchimes are the work of Satan, tantamount to having the Brighouse and Raistrick Brass Band in your garden, people on here have hyper-sensitive hearing!

Wind chimes ARE the work of Satan. Tell your neighbour that you’re going to prune the tree and then just prune the branches that overhang their property.
Best do it in August when nesting birds will have fledged.

Voice0fReason · 31/05/2020 23:17

Can you not just have a polite conversation with your neighbour to let them know that the noise is annoying.
All the passive-aggressive fuss about the tree and chopping down the branches may backfire if they just relocate the chime to another place that is equally annoying.

Our new neighbours have a wind chime too. Ding ding all day today in the wind. Sigh

This made me chuckle; definitely mention it's loud and bothering you to them rather than adding another chime to the issue! Otherwise the rest of the neighbours will start putting up more of the feckers and you'll have an orchestra before you know it.
