To be sick of the lies

The government have layered lie upon lie throughout their time in office - brought into sharp relief by covid.

The science is telling us that the government isn’t following it at all

I have no faith in them.

YANBU they wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 30/05/2020 08:16

I started a thread about this elsewhere and concluded "the science" is actually political science.

Hingeandbracket · 30/05/2020 08:17

Then again, I didn't vote for this bunch of cunts.

Cabinfever10 · 30/05/2020 08:18

He's only letting people out to distract everyone from DC

DrManhattan · 30/05/2020 08:33

@Cabinfever10
Totally agree.

Boris doesn't even let 'the scientists ' speak. I have no faith in CW and PV now. They should have spoken up if they had any integrity. Anyways good luck everyone

RuffleCrow · 30/05/2020 08:40

How can they say there's very little chance of eradicating the virus when New Zealand has practically done so? I'm not sure who I trust less: Sage, The Government or The Guardian. There's another Guardian article from a few days ago where they refer to the high school athlete girls in Connecticut as 'people who have always identified as female' or some such horseshit. That's how concerned The Guardian is about science. Ffs. HmmAngry

Pacmanitee · 30/05/2020 08:41

Er they do, but they don't have the power to make any political decisions, only inform. If you actually read what they have written or listened to what they say then you would see that they are critical of the response.

Fairyliz · 30/05/2020 08:45

The thing is does anyone actually know? I’m old enough to have seen dozens of so called experts spouting off and quite often it turns out they were wrong all along.
The scientists are all contradicting themselves anyway, better to use your common sense and hope for the best.

SmileEachDay · 30/05/2020 08:45

Ruffle

Your cynicism re the media and SAGE is fair.

this links to the ONS report saying infection rates are at 8000 a day here Plus some of the scientists from SAGE’s comments.

Findingapath · 30/05/2020 09:06

Completely agree, herd immunity is absolutely what they are still pursuing . In perverse way the whole DC fiasco has helped their awful cause, because people have lost their trust in the government and will be more likely to break restrictions because DC hasn’t followed them. It’s a sad sad state of affairs and I just hope people can see through all these lies and falsehoods they are being fed by the gov and make their own careful decisions on what is and isn’t safe.

sirfredfredgeorge · 30/05/2020 09:21

But there's other "science".

Science isn't one dimensional, and any scientist who says doing something is "safe" without talking about what not doing it does either has their own agenda or isn't aware of all the facts.

A scientist can truthfully say on the subject of food poisoning that you are "safe" if you never eat. You'd be aware that that would kill you, and certainly isn't safe, now Covid lockdown is not on that scale, but it's equally there are risks to lockdown.

And yes, incompetent media, lies, and scared people are the problem, just saying "listen to the scientists" isn't right.

SmileEachDay · 30/05/2020 09:23

sirfredfredgeorge

Absolutely. Which science is the government following though? Because it doesn’t seem to be SAGE.

OP posts:
BillywilliamV · 30/05/2020 09:34

We cant all stay locked up forever, the risk to health has to be balanced against the risk to people's livelihoods.
Scientists advise, economists advise, the government's job is to judge and take the the least risky path, given that the country has to recover from this.
I am not giving my opinion as to how they are doing, but this is a job I would not wish on anyone!

Everyone who is yelling and screaming about murder, end the lockdown now and "political science" etc. should just be thanking their lucky stars that they're not in a position where the whole nation is going to act on what they say!

SmileEachDay · 30/05/2020 09:38

BillywilliamV

They have lied and lied - from “We didn’t get the email from Europe” (not true) through “A shipment of PPE a arriving from Turkey” (it wasn’t) to “He’s done nothing wrong” (he has)

At a time when public confidence in government is crucial to the success of test and trace they are making themselves completely impossible to trust.

Findingapath · 30/05/2020 09:43

I think the reason they are publishing the SAGE minutes is because they can then claim, in future when appointing the blame , that they were open and people could access the full details and make their own decisions...knowing full well the majority won’t be reading hundreds of pages to inform their decisions on what is safe and they will just try their best to follow the loose ambiguous guidelines set by gov...hence promoting herd immunity further.

FizzyGreenWater · 30/05/2020 09:46

The legacy of this government will be the eventual riots.

BillywilliamV · 30/05/2020 09:46

That is true, I'll give you that!
So many people are using these lies as an excuse to justify their own agendas too.. and Boris shut down Chris Whitty the other evening. I'd have followed him to the ends of the earth, now I wonder a little whether he'd risk his job if push really came to shove?
Conflicted, basically!

I shall go and do my piano practice!

SmileEachDay · 30/05/2020 09:49

Boris shut down Chris Whitty

Indeed.

OP posts:
Humphriescushion · 30/05/2020 09:52

I agree, it has been lie after lie. And now they are trying to distract us with bbqs!

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 30/05/2020 09:53

@FizzyGreenWater Boris was Mayor of London when riots occurred there....

LakieLady · 30/05/2020 09:55

It's all about the money. It always is with the Tories.

knittingaddict · 30/05/2020 09:58

YANBU.

I will see my family at a 2 meter distance.

I won't be going to the hairdressers when they open soon.

I won't be going to any shops.

I won't be going to the beach or crowded tourist areas.

They can dangle as many carrots as they like, but I'm not buying it. Don't trust them an inch.

Before anyone accuses me of being a Tory hater, I voted for them in the last election and have probably voted more for them than any other party in my lifetime. I tend to be a bit of a floating voter overall. To be honest, I don't think I trust any politicians and that makes me sad.
