Just love it! What I especially love are the tracks that don't get much radio airplay!!

Me too! When I lived in north Kent, I used to listen to a station called Time FM. It’s broadcast from Essex, Romford I think. It used to play Friday night floor-fillers, some songs that were great but not played that much on mainstream radio.
I live in Sussex now and the radio stations are very limited!

HarveysGirl · 29/05/2020 23:03

Hi JediJim - I loved in South Kent once upon a time so we could pick up some French channels!!
I particularly enjoyed 'High School Days' presented by David Heane - it was on Real Radio in 2008. Sadly, it seems to have disappeared into the ether!!

You need to get listening to Love 80s Liverpool online. Repetitive adverts but the song selection is the best I've heard for that era. That's why lockdown had been a breeze. It's the first thing I put on every morning. My 6 year old dd loves it.

HarveysGirl · 29/05/2020 23:07

To be honest ladykuga - I've never to date listened to radio on line - except Pick of the Pops on bbciplayer but that doesn't count!! However I'm now about to check this out so thanks for the heads up!!

Isn't is 90s right now?
If you have a smart speaker (or mobile!) Absolute radio 70s (they have an 80s too) gets played here whenever radio 2 has something shit (Elaine Page, I'm looking at you).
DH loves Craig Charles on a Saturday evening.

HarveysGirl · 29/05/2020 23:10

OMG ladykuga - just listed to some of it and they even played the old Thames TV jingle!! I'm in heaven!!

When I go back to the London area, there are so many channels. You could find some great music particularly on a weekend!
Luckily I have an Alexa so maybe I should play my favourite stations on that!

HarveysGirl · 29/05/2020 23:12

Gammeldragz - yes it is 90s now and I've just switched off!! You can tell I'm not a 90s child!

Totally agree with you about Elaine Paige!! - I'm not much of a 'musical' buff!

I've noticed that JediJim whenever I drive towards London

Oh Elaine Paige. My god. I love musicals, but that chuckle she does.
I have listened to so much Radio 2 on lockdown. Love Sounds of the 80s (and 90s is ok), Sara Cox, Ken Bruce, Rylan. Also listen to a lot of Absolute 80s.

HarveysGirl · 30/05/2020 00:04

Absolutely love Rylan and Ken Bruce - I've got Rylan's autobiography and just finished it!

@harveysgirl great isn't it? When I first heard the Thames jingle I went so far back in time. They play some absolute gems that you never hear on the generic 80s channels. Goombay Dance Band anyone? 🥴

"The decade of decadence" is the sentence in our house. We say it every five minutes. 😂

ladykuga · 30/05/2020 00:32

@HarveysGirl I also love how some of the news slots are actually 80s news. The one question quizzes are good as well. Really is a wonderful trip down memory lane.

HarveysGirl · 30/05/2020 00:39

ladykuga - it is great - I need to listen to it for longer to hear the news slots

Heart 80s is also good.

I'm a massive 80s fan. The music, films, clothes, hair. O for a time machine!

Havanananana · 30/05/2020 08:11

There are several radio stations playing 80's music which can be accessed over the internet, including some from the Continent.

Try the Danish station ClassicFM (not the UK one that plays classical music) for an eclectic mix of classic 1980's and 90's tracks - it's fun for a couple of hours occasionally. classicfm.dk

Livingthecovidaloca · 30/05/2020 08:27

Highly recommend the Absolute stations... I always go for Absolute 90s, DH is an Absolute 80s fab.

ladykuga · 30/05/2020 13:46

@Livingthecovidaloca I find the Absolute stations are very predictable musicwise and never seem to play the really off the beaten 70s, 80s, 90s tracks/one hit wonders which is a shame.
