So much plastic in my weekly shop

Please show me your sustainability friendly weekly shop ideas for busy mums XX I'm a vegetarian by the way. Just everything is packaged in plastic and we produce so much waste

I bring these bags with me for loose fruit/veg when I'm shopping, so I don't have to use those plastic bags the supermarket provides, and I bring my own bags when shopping. Still looking for ways to reduce plastic though!

We have a zero waste store in town, so we can take glass jars with us to fill up on all dry goods, cleaning stuff, personal care. Then I take containers to the supermarket deli counters and get them to put stuff in there

We get milk delivered in glass bottles, and get a fruit and veg box so that there’s no plastic in there

Veg box from Riverford (they even do a zero waste version). Our butcher will weigh meat into customers’ own Tupperware. I think some supermarkets (Morrison’s?) do this too.

You can get pasta in paper packs from some Italian delis, but I’ve also seen it in M&S food

Pasta I've not found without plastic.

Barilla pasta comes in a cardboard box, it has a small plastic window on the front about 1 inch by 4 inches but it's better than the entire package being plastic.

I buy cheese, meat and fish from the deli counter and take my own containers.
I take my own containers for fruit and veg.
I buy large tubs of yogurt and sharing sized bags of crisps and portion them up at home.
We now have a doorstep milk delivery which delivers orange juice and milk in glass bottles.
Plastic cereal bags can be recycled in Sainsbury’s with the carrier bags.

Thank you guys. I was thinking veg box...there's a Waitrose near me I will check out for pasta etc...though complicated by being gluten free due to husband.

Tesco and Sainsbury's both do a "bring your own Tupperware" to the butchers and fishmongers. Sainsbury's have also done away with plastic bags for fruit and veg, so you have to buy the reusable ones they have available (35p each, I think?), or take your own.

My health food shop does lots of refills ( tho you do pay more, and gf pasta).
Lots if fruit of fruit veg can be loose, rice flour is great for sauces and light cakes.
Try and get loose nest from butchers too.
Try refills fir eco household stuff, I buy bio d ( much cheaper than Ecover) 5 litres.
And have milk in milk bottles too.
Awaiting reusable terry style reusable kitchen roll, with poppers, ordered compostable coffee pods too ( slightly more than nespresso)

I'm al so veggie! and I get a veg box delivered once a week - and then pop to the local refill store once a month for rice/pasta/lentils etc.
Saves SO MUCH plastic.
And then I get all my toiletries etc online at Life Before Plastik - saves me so much time and only need to pop to the shop for my dry food and tins!

@Pieinthesky11 also just read that your husband is gluten intolerant. So is my mum who's staying with us due to COIVD at the minute.
It definitely makes it more of a challenge but you should ask at your refill place if they can get GF stuff in!

I noticed Morrison's are now packaging their eggs in plastic boxes rather than the usual cardboard. Why on earth would they start doing that? Is there a cardboard shortage at the moment?

Yes to the veg box! I order shampoo, toiletries, cleaning stuff etc from Peace with the Wild which is all in glass/cardboard packaging. Buy pasta, rice etc in bulk but have not yet found somewhere that is not in plastic. We did get some pasta in cardboard box but it was not large quantities.

Also little things like washing powder in a box rather than liquid in a plastic bottle. I have not yet been brave enough to try soap nuts but you might want to.
