Can you believe that Trump has just tweeted this comment? He is talking about the protests about George Floyd's death. He has also called the protestors "thugs".

Twitter has put a warning on his twitter post, saying that it "glorifies violence". It is also racist!

The "historical context" is a reference to the late 1960s, when the phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" was coined by Miami Police Chief Walter Headley, in reference to his aggressive policing policies in black neighbourhoods.

The focus on looting is racist, derailing bullshit

You can’t ignore it though. My hometown is having some minor rioting and looting inspired by Minneapolis (ours isn’t the only one) so obviously this is a bit of a concern and I hope the arrest means that the unnecessary property damage will stop.

Protest all you like but stop destroying property, especially that of local business that never did anything to you.

DGRossetti · 29/05/2020 21:49

and ,now they are saying his death could have been contributed by substances in his system ,no idea if he had any substances in his system but even if he did surely a fucking knee on your neck would have compromised his breathing more

and then

"Well we all have to die sometime"

HelloToMyKitty · 29/05/2020 21:50

And anyway, there were white looters as well. Why are you assuming they are all black Kitty?

Please post where I said the looters were all black.

Swiftsseason · 29/05/2020 21:52

Unfortunately looting does undermine the protest.

Because it does look like a blatant excuse to use this tragedy for personal gain...

Imagine how much more powerful other forms of protests would be...

Plant I agree. 8 whole minuets and they must have felt him go limp. Passers by saying.. Check his pulse.

What other outcome will there be when your access to breath is denied.

He was the one by his head. He never checked him, or looked at him in the face.... He displays no duty of care at All.

We see no struggle, no movement and he's even cuffed when put on the gurney.

It's abominable.
The medic checks his pulse then walks off then gently taps the bastards leg, then he's clumsily shoved on the gurney
Why didn't the medic immediately get the bastard off!! It would have been too late but why! And why load him in cuffs!!

The whole thing is atrocious.

I've always seen America as very backwards actually... We have been pumped full of the culture, burgers and films but its a veneer of civility.
The maternity pay, lack of holidays, bizzare work culture... The guns... And the racism...

..

Swiftsseason · 29/05/2020 21:55

Dr rosessti

I can't understand that argument!

3 police officers killed him... Not the substances in his system. I hope they don't try and get away with that.

It's just the way the medics handled him with so little care...

I'm can't wait trust any of them... The coroner etc...

PlantPottingPlantPotting · 29/05/2020 22:02

@Swiftsseason I’ll have to admit, I haven’t watched the video. I can’t. Just hearing about this breaks my heart. Sadly, I fear he will be given a slap on the wrist in terms of what he should be charged with, his identity will be changed & he will be placed in protection. When in reality he should be charged with first or second at the very least, spend his life in prison & ROT away slowly. I’ll be waiting on news of the other officers present to see whether the are charged as an accessory Hmm

HelloToMyKitty

If you are so very concerned about the protests and property damage poor old property resulting from the murders of Black people, perhaps write some strongly worded letters to your representatives requesting an end to the murders of Black people?

The murders caused the protests.
The protests will stop when the murders stop.

PlantPottingPlantPotting · 29/05/2020 22:10

@FOJN I didn’t know he had many complaints against him. somebody like him has nothing to contribute to society In any way. Criminal in a uniform, who abused his position and then had the arrogance to think he could explain his way out of suffocating somebody in road daylight.

x2boys · 29/05/2020 22:12

It's an awful situation as a police officer even if George floyd had taken substances ( and I have no idea if he did it's just what they are reporting on CNN right now) that could have compromised his breathing they a should have been aware of this potential any further situation that could have exacerbated this clearly contributed more

HelloToMyKitty · 29/05/2020 22:25

If you are so very concerned about the protests and property damage poor old property resulting from the murders of Black people

Those local businesses had nothing to do with this. Why burn down libraries and small businesses? There were some peaceful protests, this should have been the way, not hurting and stealing from your fellow community members.

Watch Korboi Balla explain how he put his life savings into his sports bar, and how this has been cruelly taken from him for no good reason. It’s not ‘just property’

Yes criminal in uniform.

His boss for his bouncer work said he was too quick to use force, on punters.
. Very dangerous unstable character.

ChoosingHim · 29/05/2020 22:37

So glad to hear the cop is being charged with murder!

Your concern is touching.

Are you concerned about the regular state funded and excused murders of Black people? The reason for the protests?

Amurica

The country where a 14 year old child gets the death penalty for a crime he didn't commit (of course he was black) and a murdering cop gets charged with third degree murder of an innocent man only after being pressured into it.

'Land of the free'. Do we look stupid? The whole world sees you.

Here's one perspective from a local business owner:

<a class="break-all" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/29/dining/minnesota-restaurant-fire-protests.html#click=t.co/pxDfgj6rCb" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.nytimes.com/2020/05/29/dining/minnesota-restaurant-fire-protests.html#click=t.co/pxDfgj6rCb

"Let my building burn,” he said. “Justice needs to be served.”

HelloToMyKitty · 29/05/2020 23:43

Let my building burn,” he said. “Justice needs to be served

He didn’t deserve to have his restaurant burned down. It wasn’t his knee in the neck of Floyd. Neither did the other 150+ businesses that have been destroyed.

PicsInRed · 29/05/2020 23:43

Netflix' "13th" free on youtube.
It details the path from the 13th amendment's (slavery) wording through various stages of Black oppression up to today.

It is an absolutely horrifying documentary. Because it's accurate.

@PippaHugo and @PicsInRed
Great posts.

Posts here attacking ‘looters’ continue in the great colonial tradition of whataboutism and stripping any analysis of historical context in order to dehumanise and criminalise the most oppressed groups in society

Needamanicure · 30/05/2020 00:52

I see America as an unequal society.

The land of the free with equal opportunities is a joke.

I am white. If I was a black man and living in America .....

It is 2020 - the murder is disgusting - the excuses are disgusting.

Is it any surprise with a racist narcissist running the shit show!

MsMD · 30/05/2020 01:09

Black Americans tried to protest peacefully. Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem. He was abused by even the president.

Someone upthread said the protesters don't have to act like the thing they are protesting - don't be so ridiculous! They are protesting MURDER of one of their own; a murder which until this afternoon the state had deemed perfectly legal. It is horrific that it took those actions for the officer to be arrested.

Black America is angry. And not only do I not blame them, I think what they did was completely understandable. We dont get to continue killing them and get away with it. We don't get to continue killing them and then tell them how to act when we do.
