DS2 is in yr 6 so according to Boris should be going back up school, his primary school are not taking any pupils other than key workers

So, who's primary school is taking yr 6 pupils back in school?

Just wondering how many are re opening to the advised year groups?

Ours is still on course to open on Monday. We got a detailed letter about the plans a week or so ago and then a follow up telling us how the classes will be divided.

I think most primaries will take as many year 6 as they can, they have to put them in smaller groups in separate rooms with a certain space between desks etc. Some primaries sent parent surveys out to see how many parents want to send their kids in, as many don't. In some cases, there may be more vulnerable children or children of key workers at a certain school? Or it may be there are more staff who need to shield?

However, I think that any parent of a Year 6 student who wants to send their child in now has the right.
In all honesty though, this is not because the givernment envisage normal schooling, its all about helping working parents get back to work. I think many schools have such a logistical nightmare ahead that they are working on the assumption that many year 6 students won't return.

Ours are going back the last week in June for 2 days a week.

BarbedBloom · 28/05/2020 20:29

One isn't open at all here due to lack of staff but the others are only taking keyworker kids as they don't have space or staff for more

I should have said that it’s on the basis of full-time for reception, yr 1 and yr 6.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/05/2020 20:32

Our school are taking YR, Y1 and Y6 but from the 8th and on a part time basis.

Merinocool · 28/05/2020 20:40

Ours are going back from 8th with a phased return, so starting off year 6 on Monday and working down to nursery by the Thursday. I’m not sending mine back though.

DominaShantotto · 28/05/2020 20:47

Junior school is taking Y6 (2 days a week per class - dual form entry).

happytoday73 · 28/05/2020 20:49

Our school is just taking yr1 and reception... With no explanation or comment re yr6

No they don’t the schools make the decision about which children/year groups they can safely accommodate based on the government guidelines.

Flowersinthewild · 28/05/2020 20:54

Our school is taking years 1 and 6 for 2 days a week and year r 2 days every 2 weeks! Hmm

GameSetMatch · 28/05/2020 20:56

Our school is taking years 6,1,R and nursery full time, how I don’t know? I’m still very unsure of whether to send my son.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/05/2020 21:01

In out school, Y6 have the option of returning for two weeks in July. However, they added that by the time y1 and reception are in school, the remaining school places will be limited and everyone who wants a place in y6 may not get one.

MosaicOrnaments · 28/05/2020 21:16

Ours have offered a place to 100% of Reception, 100% of Year 1 and 85% of Year 6, they've said if people don't turn up they'll offer the spaces to Year 6 until the bubbles are full
