This government is deadly

I mean very literally here given the 60 000 excess deaths. Not to mention the recent events with Dominic Cummings' version of reasonable and truthful and the Prime Minister's inability to sack him. I'm scared for what this means for the second wave.

I'm shielding and have two young children. I'm 37 and otherwise and fit and well. I'd rather not just pop off in to the statistics with 'underlining health conditions'.

My worry is, incredibly, people voted in this government for four years.

Are there any options available to replace them? Even just the terrible cabinet?

It's dreadful that they were voted in. It's terrifying how so many people will defend their actions.

They don’t appear to have learnt lessons and still are reactive rather than proactive.
Why is Matt Hancock talking about future local lockdowns but not about lifting restrictions locally rather than the whole country at once?

Which is more risky - to lift restrictions and monitor/gather data in areas with low infections? Or lift restrictions everywhere and wait to see if we get a second wave? Isn’t it better to be cautious if we don’t know/don’t have enough evidence?

I'd be happy if the cabinet advocated to the scientists completely rather than trying to use them as an excuse for their poor decisions! Interesting points about British exceptionality. It does seem baffling that the government ignored the forewarning of what was happening in Italy and Spain. The PPE and testing failures are an embarrassment at this point.

I don't think anyone has blamed the government for the actual virus. I do blame them for not making sure PPE was available. I do blame them for not quarantining people coming into the UK. I do blame them for sending Covid patients into care homes. I do blame them for not locking down sooner.

The economy would recover much quicker if they had done those things. And, more importantly in my view, so many thousands of people wouldn't have died.

Sucking, I'm referring to the figures from the ONS (Office of National Statistics):

In the spirit of educating those ignorant to disabilities and not taking offense to your very clumsy question, I'll try and explain. There are some conditions, degenerative in my case, which whilst I can lead a full an active life normally, if I were to get covid I would likely become seriously ill, probably die, as my condition affects my heart and lungs. Please remember people can have complex medical needs and hidden disabilities. I've worked with people who have cystic fibrosis, Crohn's disease, muscular dystrophy and MS who unless they had told me, I would haven't known. Many people consider themselves fit and well despite their underling health condition. Remarks like yours can feel very dismissive and even offensive to some and mean people are less willing to share their challenges for fear of prejudice.

well said regarding disability and I agree with your postSmile

Regardless of your political stance, we should all give the Dr's who have had to sit in protest, the respect they deserve and support them.

Yes their self serving cronyism has cost many lives and will cost more yet.

Would people still be supporting the actions of the government during the pandemic if Covid19 mainly targeted the young rather than the elderly? 60,000 excess deaths is appalling, the handling of the crisis continues to be a shambles and Johnson is not capable of leading the one trick ponies of the cabinet, this is not about Brexit or left-right politics, it is about the safety and prosperity of the nation, the more it is mishandled the longer the economy will suffer as businesses cope with sick employees and low returns, more people will need treatment for the virus meaning fewer people will feel safe to follow up health concerns that could be deadly. If you cannot bear to see the current cabinet criticised you are heading towards cult of personality status.
