You can tell if a women's had a baby by her stomach

My friends wisdom you can tell a women's had a baby as they have a rounded tummy after. She declared this when I said I was pregnant last time and that she couldn't tell the difference as I always had a rounded tummy ( I'm a tall size 12 normally) Hmm Do you thinks it true ? And why are we all walking around looking 5 months pregnant permanently?

I've had some ab separation after two large babies personally.

Well I have a friend who is a size 18 apple and a friend who is a size ten and about 5 foot ten, and very angular with an incredibly flat stomach.

Which one would she guess had two kids and which one has none?

Because on her theory, she’d be wrong.

Cam2020 · 28/05/2020 08:51

Total rubbish. What about athletes? They still have babies and aren't on the starting blocks with mum tums! Extreme comparison, I realise, but she's spouting nonsense, and being snarky.

IndiaMay · 28/05/2020 08:55

Rubbish. My mums had 3 and shes a flatter stomach than me!

Scoobydoobywho · 28/05/2020 08:57

I did have someone ask if I was pregnant on a night out whilst pointing at my stomach. I just laughed and said no this is what having children has done to my tummy. Grin

Catra · 28/05/2020 09:00

I only made it to five months pregnant before I gave birth to a micro-preemie so my stomach never had a chance to get rounded.

Your friend is generalising and talking bollocks.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/05/2020 09:01

Its not a nice thing to say, but it is true. Pregnancy does affect your stomach permanently. It’s one of the realities of a post partum body.

SpilltheTea · 28/05/2020 09:02

She's full of shit.

Bloops · 28/05/2020 09:02

What a load of rubbish.

seven201 · 28/05/2020 09:04

My belly wasn't anywhere near flat pre child and 4 years later it looks the same. I don't have stretch marks but I do have a c-section scar. I haven't worn a bikini since I was 19 so it's not a problem to me!

I have some very slim mum friends who have the flattest tummies ever.

mrpumblechook · 28/05/2020 09:05

I think that there is usually a difference versus prebaby. I have always been slim but whereas pre children my stomach was totally flat there now is a curve. Obviously atheletes are going to have a totally flat stomach again but for most people it doesn't happen.

AriadnesFilament · 28/05/2020 09:06

She’s nice, isn’t she? 🙄

BlackberryCane · 28/05/2020 09:06

There are women who've had babies who have flat stomachs and women who haven't who don't. However there is a look that is characteristic of a woman who's had a baby, in that you don't seem to see it on anyone who hasn't. It's not so much the size of the stomach as the pouch, because of the stretching. It's not about dress size either, thin women can have it too.

TooTrueToBeGood · 28/05/2020 09:08

Who cares? The shape of your stomach does not define who you are as a person. Besides, if you want to tell if a woman has had a baby, the look of extreme exhaustion on her face is usually a dead giveaway.

JellyfishandShells · 28/05/2020 09:09

My late MIL said ‘My dear, after each of my boys, my waist just snapped back to 23 inches ! “ It was three months after my second ( big) baby and nothing could have been said to have snapped back into place. Lovely lady.

But then it gradually all tightened up again to a relatively flat stomach because that is my natural shape - small waist, flat stomach but if I put weight on it goes straight to my thighs. I’m post menapausal and still the same - I do exercise and am generally fit but don’t concentrate on my stomach. Normal, healthy weight ( according to BMI scale) not thin.

lauryloo · 28/05/2020 09:12

I'm 4 weeks post section with baby 3 and I have a definite pouch

It is what it is

The fact I'm a frazzled mess living in pj's is probably a better indication I have children right now

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 28/05/2020 09:13

Mine was back to normal after two. It was my third baby and c section that changed it. It’s still pretty flat though. Just not as firm.

bogfi · 28/05/2020 09:14

When I was a teen (90s) no women I knew had a 6 pack but apparently after dc I'm supposed to aim for one. I'll pass thanks.

5 ft 3 size 8/10 here and I don't think anyone would say I've had 3 kids back to back and gained 4/5 stone each time!! People always comment on my body along those lines anyway, however under my clothes is a different story 🙈
Think it's your Donald duck tbh not the fact you have had kids or not

Middersweekly · 28/05/2020 09:18

Most women have a slightly rounded appearance to their lower abdomen as this is where the uterus sits. Those without maybe have a retroverted uterus so it’s more tucked in.
I’ve known plenty of women who’s abdomen looks just the same post baby as it did before. The clue is actually in the widening and angle of the hips but even so, someone could have only a very slight difference. The only true way to know is when you see a baby’s head emerging out of their vagina or via sunroof. Then you can be quite sure Grin

bogfi · 28/05/2020 09:19

Also people are different shapes, my mum has a much flatter stomach/smaller waist then me but she is pear shaped

Heatherjayne1972 · 28/05/2020 09:19

Might be true. Might not
But you never ever mention it.

How rude

Tardigrade001 · 28/05/2020 09:20

I'd say it's true for a large proportion of women, but definitely not everyone.

Firstimemam · 28/05/2020 09:26

I have 16 months DS and you would never know I was pregnant! I don't do any exercise or anything like this, have been always been thin and am just very lucky but do eat very healthy.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 28/05/2020 09:27

I’m a tall size 12 too and I’ve never had a flat stomach , it’s just not my figure . I can see a difference in shape after 2 dc , there is a little pouch lower down & number 2 gave me a few stretch marks - I don’t mind it though, it’s a reminder that they were in there !
