To think it grossly unfair that Emily Maitlis won't be on Newsnight tonight and DC and BJ are still in their jobs?

It just sums up this shit country and the state it's in imo.

Watching Johnson stuttering and blustering his way through the select committee this afternoon showing that he doesn't have a grip on the crisis at all and then finding that Maitlis, who is excellent at her job, has been chastised and suspended feels like yet another blow to decency in the UK. It comes after the government refusing to appear on the show for weeks as well - too scared.

How much longer will this shit go on?

SusieOwl4 'He did not put others at risk because he did not actually mix households.', They put the healthcare workers and other patients at the Hospital in the North East that his family visited at risk or don't they count?

StopTouchingYourFaceDave · 27/05/2020 23:37

We mock Trump "fake news - drink bleach" fuckwittery and all the while BoJo percolates banished journos and driving eye tests.

It's all getting a bit embarrassing.

SusieOwl4 · 27/05/2020 23:38

Ohh @PotholeParadise. Are you saying the reporters lied about him ?

That’s hilarious because the MEDIA reported he travelled with covid symptoms

How IRONIC

BubblesBuddy · 27/05/2020 23:39

She was introducing a journalist view point. Like the Leader column in a newspaper. What follows is a discussion. It sets a scene. Emily Maitliss is excellent. One of the best at the BBC and doing more heavyweight interviews than Kirsty W who prefers the arts.

WildIrishRose1 · 27/05/2020 23:40

I normally love Auntie Beeb, but this is ridiculous! The Tories have their own PR, they don't need the BBC to pile in. Facts are facts and are always impartial. To suggest otherwise takes us into the realm of "alternative facts". On a slight tangent, we are now at about the same distance in time as Orwell was when he wrote "1984". How incredibly sad that we are dealing with similar issues in 2020.

SusieOwl4 · 27/05/2020 23:40

@Mumratheevergiving

His son was tested and he was negative ?

So don’t quite understand your assumption here ?

In fact I don’t think any of them actually were tested positive ?

PotholeParadise · 27/05/2020 23:40

No. I'm saying you are stating misinformation..i have no idea where you got it from. Why don't you tell me what journalists said he travelled with coronavirus symptoms?

BubblesBuddy · 27/05/2020 23:40

And if newspapers report something about Cummings junior, it needs to be true or they will be sued. Legal action doesn’t appear to be forthcoming so presumably the info they published is true. It doesn’t matter what source it came from.

MH1111 · 27/05/2020 23:41

I wonder if the baying mob will now spend a week frothing at the mouth calling for the bbc director general to resign.

Idotoo1 · 27/05/2020 23:42

They put the healthcare workers and other patients at the Hospital in the North East that his family visited at risk or don't they count?

Not to mention the stops he must have made on the way up and the fact that he could have broken down or had an accident and infected people that way.

BubblesBuddy · 27/05/2020 23:43

The source was apparently a Cummings supporter. Explaining why the DS had to go to County Durham.

SusieOwl4 · 27/05/2020 23:45

Like I said

I am leaving mumsnet because I am ashamed that you can not see what is staring you in the face

I don’t know DC not particularly liked what I have read about him but the total dual standard of posts on this site are quite sickening to be honest .
Way before this happened there were lots of people condoning the breaking of the rules .

Posters have very short memories.

SusieOwl4 · 27/05/2020 23:46

@PotholeParadise

Just google it .

I can’t be bothered any more

theduchessstill · 27/05/2020 23:47

I am just not sure how people can accept the help on one hand and then turn the next

Sorry, but that's bizarre. You're saying people should not access the furlough scheme, which has been implemented to protect the economy not as an act of kindness and will be funded via the public purse not through Johnson's personal wealth, if they are not happy with Johnson's handling of the crisis. Really??

She and the BBC should be impartial. Her first words "Dominic Cummings broke the rules..." are not factual. Whether you like it or not, there are different opinions about whether he broke the rules or not, given his circumstances.

There are different opinions about the shape of the earth, that does not mean the BBC should give credance to the idea that it's flat.

I've not seen a single legal opinion supporting the interpretation that he did not break the rules- it is utterly clear to everyone that he did. Those defending him don't really believe he did nothing wrong, they just think we shouldn't moan about it.

When Trump says that Obama was born in Kenya or that injecting bleach cures Coronavirus, should it be reported as credible?

PotholeParadise · 27/05/2020 23:49

Is this the tweet, Bubbles? The one that got deleted very hastily? If it was from a Cummings supporter, Cummings doesn't want it out there.

I'd respect his wishes on that. Particularly as this issue is not about a little boy, and I think it's abhorrent for people to keep trying to pull him into it. As far as I know, Cummings Junior did not drive that car, he did not make a scene in the Rose Garden and he did not insult the country in a press briefing.

BubblesBuddy · 27/05/2020 23:49

The BBC should be overhauled, according to Cummings. A Fox News style media corp in its place. He got a taste of it last night. It bit back. Good.

To think it grossly unfair that Emily Maitlis won't be on Newsnight tonight and DC and BJ are still in their jobs?
CalmYoBadSelf · 27/05/2020 23:50

The BBC have a duty to be impartial, she wasn't therefore was wrong. It is that simple.
I'm glad she was removed and hope she gets more than just a slap on the wrist for this. Her job is to present the facts not her own opinion, she is a poor presenter with an over inflated sense of her own importance in my opinion

BubblesBuddy · 27/05/2020 23:51

The problem is with friends and enemies of Cummings is that they tweet what they want. If he hadn’t made the journey no one would care or know about his DC. He made dc central to his defence. That’s out in the open. It didn’t need to be.

PotholeParadise · 27/05/2020 23:53

Susie

I already googled, when I was trying to work out who you were talking about in your vague post. What I found said he didn't have symptoms and just self-isolated when he got hom, just in case.

Here it is:

www.heraldscotland.com/news/18478298.coronavirus-ian-blackford-isolated-600-mile-trip-skye-home-lockdown/

crankysaurus · 27/05/2020 23:58

Thank you for the link, I will be putting in my complaint. Shit decision, she had it spot on.

MH1111 · 28/05/2020 00:03

Her role is to present facts and facilitate a balanced debate, not to broadcast her personal views

Paddingtonjuice · 28/05/2020 00:05

See, I think Cummings was wrong but I am certainly not raging about it. I spoke to my brother who thought what he did was ok as he felt it was for childcare reasons. Why should my brother pay towards the BBC license if it is going to do this? What Emily said does not reflect his views.

Idotoo1 · 28/05/2020 00:14

I am not raging so much about Cummings but about Boris’ reaction to the whole thing.

Clearly the whole affair has damaged the public health messaging and for that reason Cummings needs to go. But Boris won’t do it - he has chosen his adviser over people’s lives. He is an utterly shit PM.

Idotoo1 · 28/05/2020 00:14

And about that I am furious.
