An old housemate posted on FB/Instagram of his spontaneous lads trip on the last night of pubs/clubs being open.

He travelled by train from London to another major U.K. city to meet up with other friends and then a road trip across the countryside. The reason I know this is because he posted in every bar/club - photos of him having group pictures all having arms around each other and then a pissed video of them sharing out of the same glass.

I sent him a message telling him that his office had closed for a reason and how irresponsible to be travelling out of London (and an insult of him boasting about not giving a shit on social media when people are dying). He replied that I should loosen up a bit and that it’s his life to do whatever he wants.

He’s now started a petition/website/getting national press with blaming the government for not taking Covid seriously.

One side of me wants to either send him a print screen of the messages with a snarky reply, or to even publicly shame him. He’s far from uneducated and from his FB posts he keeps up-to-date with current affairs- he wasn’t being dim but he essentially stuck his middle finger up at Covid.

I’d remind him that he was highly irresponsible and that if his petition gets off the ground he could be publicly shamed as there are photos out there

My first instinct is to agree he sounds like a total twonk.

BUT - the government DID spend a lot of time telling us to just wash our hands and all would be well. They did originally want herd immunity, they told us it was basically the flu....this is all well after knowing what China was facing....

So he didn’t actually break any rules and perhaps at the time he didn’t realise the extent - because let’s be honest, the picture then was not as clear as it is now
