So... would ‘civil disengagement’ be a good replacement for ‘social distancing’ for example?

Or ‘crucial employee’ instead of ‘key worker’ ?

Feel free to make further suggestions!

Replacements would soon feel just as hackneyed though. And ‘civil disengagement’ is horrible; it sounds like a euphemism for divorce!
I would like to think of an alternative to ‘the new normal’ though. If brain was working.

True but we could have a bit of fun thinking them up Wink

Both of your suggestions have a somewhat harsh tone.
Primary employee for key worker? I don't know.
I don't think there's a 'friendlier' sounding term than social distancing.
It's important that the language is kept plain and warm, not too isolating and wordy. The idea of social distancing is unappealing. The wording of this action needs to be reasonable.
Even though we may not like terms like 'the new normal' there is no concise alternative. 'The new normal', like it or not, actually works.

Physical distancing rather than social works better

I'm 'business critical' rather than a 'key worker'
