How much coverage is our current political scandal getting where you are? Is there much in your media about Dominic Cummings etc.? How is being reported? Is the UK a laughing stock? Genuinely interested.

Family abroad (Australia) say it's the UK's very high death rate that's got people's attention. I don't think they care about Cummings. Nobody knows who he is.
We're not a laughing stock. They're looking on with horror.

I'm in Ireland. Had it a scandal? It just seems like business as usual to my eye. A Tory Toff being a Tory Toff! Or is he a scientist? I don't know. I find it quite boring.

Also in Ireland. Most of us are just glad we're not in the UK.

The only reason any interest in the Cummings fiasco is being shown in my house is that I'm English, though I've been here over 20 years.

It has been reported here (Aus) but as pp said it's your numbers that have our attention.

The UK is now, IMO, being compared to the US. I'm pretty shocked by both countries and the lack of those in charge giving a fuck about the citizens.

I'm in Australia. The ABC has had a few articles about it, haven't seen anything else. Definitely no one is laughing at the UK. Most of us know people there.

Several of my Canadian coworkers were aware of it. They've seen the UK as a laughing stock since the Brexit vote though, so I dont know that this story in particular has materially changed their views of the country.

I am in the US and I only know about DC because I have Sky News on my Roku. My husband is English so he watches it daily to keep abreast of what's happening back home.

I have only seen it mentioned once on US national television but it was about ten seconds long.

I'm in NZ and when I told my Dad about the Cummings scandal he already knew as he had read/heard about it on the news. I also heard this morning that someone had resigned over it. Most people here are shocked by your death toll.

Not reported at all. Presumably there isn’t enough time left after coverage of Trump’s antics and/or no one really cares that much or knows who DC is. Kate and Meghan’s tights row on the other hand... my neighbours all want to discuss that with me (from 6ft away of course).

The US and Brazil are now getting the "stupid government" treatment. Or rather, stupid presidents.
Still used as an example of responses gone wrong.

Most news from the UK are about the Oxford vaccine.

Germany here. Wouldn't know anything about it. Nobody cares. The high death rate and the ineptitude of Boris's government have cropped up but it's nothing that gets loads of coverage.

US. We don't hear much about the UK. Everyone's governments seem to have handled it badly.

Ireland here. Been reported a good bit, but like a PP said most of us are just horrified (and saddened) at your death rate and feel very fortunate our government has handled a huge amount better.

@DamnYankee not everyone has handled it badly. NZ top of the class, Ireland has done quite well too. It’s hard to fathom how badly the U.K. and USA have done

I don't think anyone was prepared for this.
Population density, size of the country, proximity to other countries, transcontinental traffic policies, etc., need to be taken into account.
No medals are being handed out at the end of the day, are they?

Oz. Nobody's laughing. We've mostly all got relatives there. It's upsetting....if my kids want one day to go to the UK to work or something, it's just looking less and less attractive.

Ireland and we have had a few conversations about it in our house but not surprised really to see a tory acting like a tory. We have our own scandal here. Our taoiseach was sun bathing in a local park (within the guideline restrictions) but he had his top off and this seems to have sent the fb masses into overdrive.

Iam curious about the coronavirus coverage. I think initially we (england ) had the awful Italy coverage partly as the prrss could spin we're not like there. It interests me that the English media isnt spinning it as horrifying and shocking in the way Australia is. I wonder if it's a mix of propoganda on both cohntries parts.

Denmark. I cant really answer as I dont follow the news since journalists cannot fathom the difference between England, GB and UK. Nor the difference between ethnic minorities, immigrants and muslims. I havent seen anything on danish twitter or fb about it.

My friends and family are in Cyprus, who locked down fast and have nearly eradicated the virus. Lockdown is over and dc all back in school. New cases are nearly all coming from UK repatriations. Many are ex pats and all are aghast rather than laughing. the death rate and general incompetence is what's being reported and discussed rather than and specific event. As a country who relies massively on British tourism they are all pretty worried right now

Yes it’s been reported and he sounds like an idiot, but that’s politicians isn’t it, they’re above the law. Two politicians in Australia did similar recently, one was expendable so lost his job, other less so so got away with it.

What worries us more is what others have said, your covid situation. With the reported death rate of 37,000 dead which doesn’t include care home deaths, I wonder how you will all come out of it when and if it ends for you.

I'm in Australia and I'd say it's been reported a medium amount and most people know about it, I've discussed it with my friends and family and they all knew about it.

Most people have said their feeling on it is shocked, disturbed, disgusted, incredulous, etc. Laughing stock isn't the word, that implies a feeling of superiority and we definitely don't feel that way - our politicians and advisers are just as bad unfortunately, if not worse, when it comes to lying, being above the law and being corrupt.
