Quick poll.
Yabu = yes, he broke the rules
Yanbu = no, he didn't break the rules.

How more patronising could you sound about people genuinely horrified about elected officials lying and making shameful fools of themselves and us. My comments were about people making video calls about everything and anything not about DC. I want to hear from scientists, doctors and people with relevant experience. Not jumped up Oxbridge graduates trying to make themselves media stars.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/05/2020 12:23

Several of the government's own behavioural experts have said what a disaster this is and that Cummings obviously broke the rules.

How well a country copes with a pandemic is heavily dependent on the trust - and hence the compliance - of the public.

This poll for the Fail looks at the views of Conservative voters âfter Cummings' statement

  • he went down like a dish of cold puke:

J.L. Partners@JLPartnersPolls

J.L. Partners conducted a nationally representative poll of 1,038 GB adults for @DailyMailUK on 26/05.
All fieldwork took place after Dominic Cummings’ statement and this morning’s headlines.

" I want to hear from scientists, doctors and people with relevant experience. "

When two of them broke the rules, they apologised and resigned.
That's pretty relevant experience of what to do.

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 12:27

Really Hmm

Well I've seen quite a few scientists interviewed, you missed them?, they did 'care' what Cummings did.

I'm talking about the endless procession of talking heads on the news not about people actually making policy. And you know it BCF
Hope you are enjoying your retirement. Grin

I'm talking about the endless procession of talking heads on the news not about people actually making policy. *

what Boris Johnson, Gove, Hancock, Shapps....
statements from members of the SAGe committee, MPs,

You missed them? Hmm

BigChocFrenzy · 27/05/2020 12:33

Thanks, Derxa I'm enjoying it a lot more now I can have my hair done and go to the gym Grin

.... which is what happens when a country locks down early enough
and gets its arse into gear from the start, with organising mass testing & contact tracing.

However, Germans are no more likely than Brits to obey any "do as I say, not what I do"
The press here would also tear any politician apart who tried that line

derxa · 27/05/2020 12:36

Well I've seen quite a few scientists interviewed, you missed them?, they did 'care' what Cummings did. Yes but I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about 23 year old Tristan giving his oh so important views about things he knows bugger all about.
DC should go and probably Boris as well btw but that would trigger yet another media feeding frenzy and so on. I like Keir Starmer and would probably vote for him but is this the time for a new government? Is that what people on here really want right now?

derxa · 27/05/2020 12:40

I know. It's been a shit show. Sadly I'm not an expert scientist so can't give a comment. Wink

BigChocFrenzy · 27/05/2020 12:42

For those of us who are political free-floaters (sounds like a flushing problem ! ) it's just a matter of applying the same rules for all

So BJ should sack Cummings, but that's it
BJ would have a much better chance of looking strong if he acted decisively, even a bit late

As it is, we are wondering what the hell Cummings holds over him

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 12:43

so you're irritated by SOME of the 'type' of people being interviewed.
because they have interviewed politicians, policy makers and scientists ad nauseum...

That's your beef. Not the whole Cummings /government shit show actually.

I know bugger all about politics really but I can tell a crock of shit when I hear it.

Could you sound more elitist?

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 12:44

@derxa

BigChocFrenzy · 27/05/2020 12:46

We can and should have a public enquiry in a couple of years, after the Coronavirus crisis is hopefully gone or under control
That would be usual after any great loss of life, to learn some lessons and hopefully do better next time

For now, it's a matter of crisis management with the government we have,
which means BJ should show he is actually in charge, not Cummings

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 12:51

what, Boris Johnson is "in charge"

😂

it's actually quite depressing

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 27/05/2020 12:51

This has been handled so badly by government.

What DC did was of course breaking the guidelines. Even if we believe his story about needing childcare (which I don't buy) his cock and bull explanation for driving to Barnard Castle is just an insult to our intelligence.

The fact that he, and government, think the public are gullible enough to buy it is an indication of the contempt that they hold us in. His resolve not to resign has also pushed ministers into making themselves look ridiculous when they try to defend and support him. How damaging to create a situation where the public loses faith in their government at a time of crisis.

derxa · 27/05/2020 12:53

Could you sound more elitist? No I'm just a contrary bugger tapping away on my laptop.

beguilingeyes · 27/05/2020 13:30

A public enquiry? You mean like the Grenfell enguiry, the Russian enquiry and the on-going Jennifer Accuri enquiry? A whole lot of evasion and nothing happens.
