Relative was sent a Covid-19 test in the post?

AIBU to think she must have paid for it.
Background- My mum spoke to her sister (aunt) last week and she's living near her daughter (my cousin). She mentioned to my DM that cousin told her she had been sent a test in the post and was 'chosen randomly'.
Cousin has a record of telling porkies - she's in her late 40s and not in any 'at risk' groups.
Is random testing going on?

Yes it is

WombatStewForTea · 26/05/2020 17:35

Yes surprised you didn't know about it

ScrapThatThen · 26/05/2020 17:35

GP practices and the Zoe app are selecting people for tests too.

iklboo · 26/05/2020 17:37

Our friends were sent a kit through the post from their GP surgery.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 26/05/2020 17:37

They are doing random testing to see how many people have it.
This information was published a few weeks ago so it is entirely possible.

Rose789 · 26/05/2020 17:37

Yeah my brother received a letter and a test. Apparently they are randomly testing 100,000 people.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 26/05/2020 17:38

Somebody posted about their child being picked for a test.

I believe that tests are sent to random people so they can see how many people have CV in the community.

DM has updated me - cousin has returned its sting she didn't want to do it.
We thought she might have an underlying health issue and we were a bit concerned (cousin has autism - I didn't mean to sound harsh in my OP).

I've just watched the CV daily update and they mentioned the random sampling.

frazzledasarock · 26/05/2020 17:39

Didn’t know you get them through the post.

My SIL was randomly selected to be tested she had to go somewhere to be swabbed. Test results came back very quickly too.

lockdownmu · 26/05/2020 17:39

Watching it now penguin

My mum was selected for a random test about two weeks ago, a courier was sent to collect it, negative result texted to her 2 days later.

Singlebutmarried · 26/05/2020 17:41

DH did one and it got picked up on Friday I think.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 26/05/2020 17:46

I did a non random test a couple of weeks ago - they lost the results.
I'd given them my name, email, DOB and phone number a couple of dozen times, plus registered my NHS number, and called three times to chase.
Hardly bodes well for track and trace. Hmm
