To ask for help with chub rub (pic incl)

Hi
Posting here for traffic...
I have always had chunky legs that rub at the top and would like someone that has had the same problem but now has gloriously rub-free thighs to help me with advice on how to get rid of it. I have got relatively narrow hips so will never have a thigh gap but I just want to enjoy a summer without that awful chub rub that comes along with it.

Have already lost 3 stone in the last 6 months and would like to lose 3 more, I am following the LP Method which is eating clean foods, low carb, low fat with lots of fruit and veg, walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day at a fast pace plus daily Pilates/Callanetics/LP Method exercise. It’s a long hard road as I have hypothyroidism and issues with my hips/pelvis which means I can’t run. Even when I was at my slimmest before kids I still had chunky thighs so I’m not expecting to have miraculously long thin legs, but surely it’s possible to tone them so they don’t rub at the top? Is there a specific exercise that can tone my problem area? I would be so grateful if someone would give me an effective inner-thigh toning exercise.

I don't know specific exercises but I know lanocane anti chafing gel helped me massively in summer last year! Great stuff.

JoesExotic · 26/05/2020 10:06

I don't know, but I love the term 'chub rub' Grin

Ginfilledcats · 26/05/2020 10:10

Hi,

Sometimes sadly it's just genetic. I was a size 10, fit, competitive dancer and still got chub rub walking round on holiday etc in short shorts or a dress. I had really toned legs due to the style of dance. Used to drive me mad.
I use mitchem roll on deodorant to help or wear spanks under long enough dresses/shorts.

Sorry can't recommend any exercises hopefully someone else can but I could never do anything about it even training 5 times a week!

Hollylolly28 · 26/05/2020 10:10

I heard liquid talc is supposed to help

Ginfilledcats · 26/05/2020 10:11

Also massive congrats on the weight loss and diet change, amazing!!

RelapsedChocoholic · 26/05/2020 10:13

Squats and lots (and lots) of walking help me- basically tone the thigh and glutes which then helps hold the flesh better.

Unfortunately weight here seems to be the last to go.

And - wow on your weight loss! Well done!

modgepodge · 26/05/2020 10:14

Body glide - you can buy it on amazon for about a tenner, it’s wonderful stuff. Like a stick deodorant you rub on. Even at my thinnest (size 8) I got chub rub. Losing more weight/toning up won’t necessarily help much (but not say don’t if you want to of course!)

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 26/05/2020 10:15

How about Callanetics? It’s from the 1980s, but there’s probably an updated video somewhere! it’s supposed to work deep into your muscles and when I used to do it, there were lots of exercises for all your different leg muscles.

I’ve tried using the Lanacane gel, deodorant, talc, coconut oil, little lacy bands that look like stocking tops. TBH these days I just put a pair of cycling shorts on under my dress. Had the added advantage of not showing my knickers if the wind blows!

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 26/05/2020 10:17

www.thebigbloomerscompany.co.uk/collections/anti-chafing-knickers

snagtights.com/collections/80-denier-opaque-chub-rub-shorts

These are both brilliant as a short-term fix. I like the bloomers best myself - I just wear them instead of knickers under dresses.

iVampire · 26/05/2020 10:18

Best product is Body Glide

And consider taking up running. It won’t do much for the rest of your body shape, but most distance runners have great legs

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 26/05/2020 10:21

PS congrats on the weight loss. I found that at my thinnest I never had a thigh gap, but my thighs brushed against each other so lightly that I didn't get the rub. I'm hoping to get back to that weight but that's ~ 3 stone away for me too.

At its worst, I've had chub rub so bad my thighs have bled Blush

Postmanbear · 26/05/2020 10:21

I wear shorts underneath dresses. I’ve been a size 8 (not anymore!) and still had this issue. You can get some that are basically long cotton knickers or they sell chub rub shorts at snag tights.

Mummatobe2020 · 26/05/2020 10:22

Talc!!

Likethebattle · 26/05/2020 10:23

None of the gels or powders work for me but when I found the shorts from the big bloomer company and bandelettes it was a game changer. Bandelletes managed to last 10 hours on a sweaty office.

rosyribbon · 26/05/2020 10:24

No advice on exercises but ASOS sell a range of "anti chafing" wear. I wear these under skirts and dresses in the summer and they work wonders. Even abroad they are light enough to wear on long day drips without feeling uncomfortable a d restrictive.

Happy20 · 26/05/2020 10:26

You can buy anti chaff bands on eBay/Amazon. They are really good as long as you get the correct size or they are inclined to fall down BlushGrin
I use them all through summer when wearing skirts or dresses. I like them better than the shorts/knickers you can get as they feel less bulky. They do lacy or smooth ones, the smooth ones are best for full day use.

Bluebellpainting · 26/05/2020 10:32

A lot of it is genetic I’m afraid. I’m size 12 with BMI of 20 but have a chub rub. I’ve taken to wearing cycle shorts under dresses and skirts in summer.

Nutellaoneverything · 26/05/2020 10:33

So there's no hope for me then? Sad
@MarkRuffaloCrumble I already do Callanetics 2-3 times a week plus Pilates on the other days of the week.

Surely there's something I can do to get rid of the problem instead of accepting my fate of treetrunks?

Iwalkinmyclothing · 26/05/2020 10:35

Mitchum roll on. I find that works as well as and lasts much longer than the lancame anti chafing gel you can get. I get the chafing whatever size I am because I have stupid legs with turned in knees; even when I was below the healthy weight range for my height (a loooooong time ago) it still happened. But Mitchum really works for me.

Rewis · 26/05/2020 10:36

I already had this problem when I was a tall, skinny teenager. Now I just wear shorts under dresses. You can agree r it by doing inner things excercise but only to an extent.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 26/05/2020 10:38

I have a thigh gap now...been doing C25K on the crosstrainer elliptical doodah so that would be my tip!

I definitely did not have one last year, but as of yet I haven't ventured into my summer frocks so don't know if it's enough to go without leggings/cycle shorts ....although, I do really like those for "ladygarden confidence and discretion" :D :D ...I may have made that up

FlamingoAndJohn · 26/05/2020 10:40

BODY GLIDE. I’m shouting because I have been through every product there is to find something that works. I purposely by the blue one because I refuse to by the exact same product but in a pink packet. Easy to keep in your bag and reapply when you go to the loo.

savehalloween · 26/05/2020 10:42

I've resided myself to the fact that I have thighs that will just always rub. Even if I were really slim I think I'd have a degree of chub rub.

I've found Lush silky draws or whatever it's called silky pants? Something like that haha works well.

Also lavacane anti chafing gel is a god send.

redsky75 · 26/05/2020 10:45

Vaseline

BirdieFriendReturns · 26/05/2020 10:45

I use www.marksandspencer.com/anti-chafing-shorts-with-cool-comfort/p/clp60165135

They also do light control ones that help hold you in but are still quite comfortable.

Uniqlo have a nice cheap range too! Good if I want a smoother shape under a dress.

Size 12-14 now with normal BMI. I had chub rub as a size 8 18 year old!
