To think there's going to be an increase in obesity post Covid?

Nearly everyone I know has put on weight, even my dm who never puts on weight. Its the boredom coupled with the gyms being closed, increase in alcohol consumption and I guess stress induced eating?
I work in secure services and we always notice the weight gain (partly due to medication) but also due to the lack of physical exercise, lack of access to healthy choices, days spent sat around watching tv. Isn't that what we're all living like now?
Sorry for any grammatical errors, walking to work and typing!

I feel fatter but am doing exactly the same exercise (if not a bit more) and eating exactly the same as normal. My half-baked non scientist theory is that stress (coronavirus & bereavements & work issues) has pushed up my cortisol production which has made me put on tummy fat, so my jeans feel a bit tighter.

Actually DH and I have lost weight. We can actually cook from scratch as we have time rather than shoving ready meals in the oven or ordering takeaways. I can also meal plan and look forward to cooking now whereas before it was another chore I had to fit into the busy day. And obviously we can't eat out. I think it's really helped to hoping to keep up the good habits when everything re-opens.

I don't think there will. There will be a number of people that put on weight. Likewise there will be a number of people that lose weight or maintain. It will all balance out in the end I reckon

I’m most def fatter Sad

I walk min 5km per day and I’m making an effort with the little weights - skipping rope that I have. I’ve even purchased some roller boots with my adult dd !!

But I’m drinking to much beer and eating to many carbs. I haven’t felt able to commit but now with my mood lifted with hope I’m back on calorie counting from today...no more hiding. I miss the gym.

I’ve lost 11 pounds so far. Been doing Couch 2 5K and finding it easier to stick to healthy eating not being in the office that always had loads of treats brought in etc.

I’ve put on weight because I’m banged up at home and marathon training came to an abrupt halt

But I don’t see why those people who have continued to WOH would gain weight

Nor those who had the disease

I think there are a lot of people doing more exercise now. I see a lot more people cycling, running, jogging past my window. ( I am shielding so have a somewhat limited view of the world).
I am dieting strictly just to maintain my weight because I can't exercise due to my condition.
So I think it will even out.
Hopefully some people will have discovered a healthier life style.

I had a weight problem before COVID that was getting worse. I‘be started running at lockdown as my fitness class is shut. I’m doing my fitness class online, family cycle rides, and I’ve got up to 7k on my runs despite my weight. Only lost about 4 pound but I don’t lose through exercise.

I’ve put on half a stone. I think most people have, even though a lot us - me included - have been more active. It’s boredom really, and having more time to cook and bake cakes etc. I think most of us will lose it as things get back to some sort of normality though.

@Teacher12345
5000 steps is categorically not a long walk. There is little hope for the country to be a healthy weight while most people consider walking no more than 3 miles a long walk.

@Statisticalsense, It is for 2 kids under 7. It took us an hour And we have been calling it a king walk because for them it’s a bloody marathon!
I am aware that if you don’t have kids it’s a much shorter walk but right now, for us, most walks are long!

I’ve gained weight - noticeable on my stomach which is the area I’m normally good at hiding.

But to be fair - I also have two fractured ribs so I can’t suck in my stomach anymore 🤣

My whole posture is out and it makes me look like a crunched up weeble!

I've stated the same but then again I have a new more physical.job than I did before, I also run every day.

My friend was doing really well dieting and going to the gym every day before all this, he gave up as soon as lockdown happened and is back to square one.

My brother bought shares in weight watches and made £1000 in a few weeks, they went sky high!

I’ve lost weight but then I am already obese and now trying to lose it, exercising more etc

I have lost 33 pounds mainly though ill health, I don't recommend it. I can't exercise properly atm but 9/10 of losing weight is diet based imo.

That said I still have a mountain to climb before I am a healthy weight. I hope to get there one day.

Both myself and partner have lost about a stone each. Just walking between 5 and 7 miles each day, which is easy in this weather and watching what we eat. If we start to go up, a couple of nights on our weight loss meal, piece of salmon, some salsa for a sauce, new pots and some green puts us back on track. We are not eating out, obviously, avoid takeaways and are off beer - wine is taking a hammering though, which is what is reponsible for our weight creeping up before lockdown.

Obese? How much are people eating/drinking to go from health-ish to obese in 2 months!
Like any period people will have gained and lost weight. We're in the got healthier ( tho haven't weighed ourselves) as we're cooking from scratch more and outside cycling. sea swimming, walking much more than normal schedules allow.

I've put on 8lb! I literally just weighed before getting in the shower. I've been strict on my eating for three days today and was too scared to get on the scales but I just braved it. I surprised myself though, I thought I'd put at least a stone on. I've now put on 2st 8lb since my hysterectomy in October. I vow to get this off within the next few months I AM IN THE ZONE!!!

I'm a pretty active person and I've had to work so hard to keep my activity levels as high as they were pre lockdown. I was averaging 14,000-15,000 steps a day which is not easy to do without walking to the station and all the other incremental activity I used to do. Running 6 miles only gets me about 10,000 of those steps.

We’re the same

I feel boring now

We don’t tend to fluctuate a lot in weight

I was thinking people would be on a health drive as it is now permitted to say obesity is bad for your health

DH and I are eating much healthier now. Being at home all the time means we can't go out for food or pick up a takeaway, so we have to cook. We're also walking every day because DH is working from home and I no longer have a job, so we have much more free time to exercise. It's been a blessing in disguise for us (except the obvious negatives of being in lockdown and having to social distance).

I've put on a stone since being sent home to work mid-March and the gym closing. DH has practically got me under house arrest as I have health conditions and my DC are baking 3 times a week so it's a heady combination Grin I really need to whip myself back into shape but home workout videos are so naff.
