To think there's going to be an increase in obesity post Covid?

Nearly everyone I know has put on weight, even my dm who never puts on weight. Its the boredom coupled with the gyms being closed, increase in alcohol consumption and I guess stress induced eating?
I work in secure services and we always notice the weight gain (partly due to medication) but also due to the lack of physical exercise, lack of access to healthy choices, days spent sat around watching tv. Isn't that what we're all living like now?
Sorry for any grammatical errors, walking to work and typing!

I haven't gained weight as i've had no alcohol in lockdown as no pubs/restaurants open (would normally have a good few drinks at least once a week, a lavish meal and a heavy night out here and there).

I've probably snacked more and exercised as bit more to equal that out. Added to usually having a two week summer holiday of going mad with food and drink, whereas I won't be going anywhere at all this year.

I don't think it's quite like Christmas where people do go really overboard with food and drink. All in all it equals out. Sure, some people will drink themselves to numbness and binge eat but not the norm.

I think many people have taken up exercising more and when we can be more active this will pay off.

I've never seen so many people outdoors exercising. That's tempered by no gyms but the roads have never been so busy with people. Before Covid I could walk for an hour without passing anyone on foot (a fairly busy built up area), whereas now I could walk a few yards.

I have been exercising a lot, but it probably works out at the same levels pre lockdown when you take into account not doing walk to the office etc. Been averaging about 16,000 steps. But eating lots. Probably having more for lunch than I would in the office. Comfort eating for sure. Keeping alcohol intake for weekend only but it has crept up a bit recently.

Last weighed myself two weeks ago and I had gained a couple of pounds. Not going to bother doing it again till I'm back to 'normal' life. Figure it will only stress me out. Do need to get the comfort eating under control though.

YANBU, I have only left the house with my DC during the main part of lockdown and this has meant walking very slowly. We went for a 3 hour walk and only did 7000 steps, for example. We've all put on weight.

I’ve lost 10lbs. I don’t snack any more (stopped at the start of lockdown) because I knew it would be a slippery slope. Got about another 7lbs to lose to be at my best weight, so it’s a good thing.

Yep, a stone heavier!
I am desperate to get back to the gym! I used to go EVERY morning... missing my friends from there as well. Too much comfort eating... and the virus prefers fat cells so I should seriously not put on weight!

Nope working full time still. Not eating differently or more, apart from in Summer I eat more salads etc. I always walk anyway. More yoga to deal with the stress of it all on my days off.

Also no pubs, restaurants open. Maybe a meal out once a week or so with drinks. Calling in the pub after a walk for a couple. I suppose they add up. I'm still drinking but less at home as it makes me sleepy. Maybe once a week.

I'm sure some people on furlough have put on a little weight, we have all dealt differently with this situation. However this thread has shown people are changing their habits or never did gain wait anyway as they have time to eat better or exercise more.

My dh has lost almost 2 stone and I've lost 5lb during lockdown. I think this is the easiest I've ever lost any weight because I've only been going to the supermarket once a week so if I don't buy junk/sugary foods whilst I'm there then it's not in the house to eat for the week. We've not even had a takeaway which is impressive for us, and neither of us drink alcohol often. Plus I've been walking a lot more.

No doubt the weight will go back on me, at least, once I'm out and about more frequently as I'll be popping into shops for copious amounts of chocolate.

I was on the home run of my last 3 stone to lose, after losing 4 before lockdown by going to the gym 6 times a week and going gluten and mainly dairy free. I started back on the bread, cereal, cheese and yoghurt, only went for short walks and couldn’t motivate myself to do online workouts so I gained 8lb in the first month.

Got myself back in the saddle with the terror of going back to where I’d started and I’ve lost 9lb now by joggjng 10km 6 days a week, a long bike ride with DH and DC daily, doing the 30 day shred and ditching at least the gluten again (although not every day!). I know if I hadn’t upped my exercise the weight would have piled on. I eat less when I’m working out hard as meals make me feel fuller for some reason.

DH is also a gym goer but much fitter than me. Even he got a paunch but started running with me, does 100 press ups a day, used the boxing bag in the garage and he’s lost it now, as well as a lot of muscle mass as he’s used to lifting lots of heavy weights!

I think people really struggle to motivate themselves to be more active at the best of times, let alone now.

I have lost weight because I have done a lot of walking and cycling during the lock-down. In fact a lot more than I should have done.....

Oh hang on I think the Police are at the door.

Surely you recognize me officer - I'm Dom Cummings

It's ok - they've gone .......

Yes, I put on a LOT of weight the first half of lockdown, but then I started doing something about it. Couch to 5k programmes and bike riding has become hugely popular. The running groups are FULL of new runners, the parks are full of shiny new bikes. I think it's a bit like Christmas, where everyone over indulges and then eventually it stops being enjoyable and the next thrill is new year dieting and gym joining.

I put on weight initially, then started dieting a couple of weeks and have probably lost what I put on and a bit more.
From the posts on here, I'm not alone in doing that.

(Not inspired in any way to loose wight because of Boris' comments on weight loss, just want to make that absolutely clear!)

No gain here - but probs because we’ve been able to exercise more!

I was trying to lose a little before lockdown and have continued to be careful. No eating out and more walks means I've lost more. I'm surprised more people haven't lost weight without meals out, pub, takeaway coffees etc.

I’ve lost weight. No access to incessant work snacks

Nor those who had the disease

DH has had it and he’s put on half a stone. A week of being mildly ill hasn’t negated the 9 weeks of sitting at his desk working from 8am-8pm every day with zero exercise!

I’ve lost half a stone, but it was intentional. Thought I’d make the most of no meals out/drinks out with friends etc to drop a few pounds.

I m cooking huge now. I had an active job and then exercised on top of that as well.
My jobs gone. I try to go out an exercise but the local facelicking brigade don't get the 2 meter rule or can even guage 1 meter or any decenc bof personal space around here, so I've given up going out for walks now as it just gives me the rage.
I exercise on my rower and cross trainer but its not anywhere near my previous levels.
I'm drinking loads. I can't get a grip of myself. The world has turned into a place of nasty fuckers full of hate. I'm becoming more and more reclusive as I cba anymore.

Dh has put on weight (more beer) and I've lost weight - but I was trying to lose weight before lockdown anyway. Outdoor exercise has been the only thing to keep me sane. Generally speaking the Covid crisis has split people into two groups - fitties and fatties. Dsis has put on a stone. But she's still much slimmer than me and in truth needed to put a bit back on.

We are 1 stone down in this. Working from home means we can both get out the exercise, which wasn’t possible with commute/ school drop off & collection times and our evening routine. We are in a nice habit now of 0800-0900 exercise on alternating days each.

Yes. I’m at my heaviest ever, so is DP. Both on a diet now, but my god that was a shock when I weighed myself. The number in stones was 2 higher than I’ve ever seen it!! I know at least half a stone of it was probably before lockdown but the rest is definitely during Shock

In my defence, I have a thyroid issue and had to change my medication due to bloody Covid interrupting supplies. I was more or less bed bound for a week and my metabolism was shot to shit!! However I’m back on an even (-ish) keel now!

I’m trying desperately to not lose any more weight. I’ve not changed the amount I eat or the amount of exercise I’m doing, but I have lost half a stone just through stress I think.
