To think there's going to be an increase in obesity post Covid?

Nearly everyone I know has put on weight, even my dm who never puts on weight. Its the boredom coupled with the gyms being closed, increase in alcohol consumption and I guess stress induced eating?
I work in secure services and we always notice the weight gain (partly due to medication) but also due to the lack of physical exercise, lack of access to healthy choices, days spent sat around watching tv. Isn't that what we're all living like now?
Sorry for any grammatical errors, walking to work and typing!

I put on over a stone. I never put on weight I thought I was the type that gets away with it.
My body is seized up, it is down to lack of walking. I started a new exercise regime this week I feel bad, my stomach bloating hurts.

I can see what you're getting at OP in that a lot of people put on weight in lockdown as they are much more restricted in choice of activities.

However, in recent ish times compared to when I was an 80s child (!) - there has been a shift, certainly in the UK of:
normal weight equals 'skinny'
overweight but not obese equals 'normal'
obese people fall into one of 2 camps - those who decide to make a detemined effort to lose it and successfully do it and those who look as if they're likely to stay obese all their lives.

if you're slightly underweight - anorexic freak! I don't intend that to be disrespectful to anorexic people just highlighting the insidious increasing acceptance of fat as somehow normal and if you are one of the rare people who don't comfort eat as a way of dealing with difficult emotions you are somehow different from the norm!!

DP and I have both lost weight.

We are eating much healthier meals, no meals out, takeaways or Starbucks.

No sweet treats and we cut down massively on alcohol as we were worried it was a slippery slope. We have been doing a good hours exercise a day.

I do struggle with an eating disorder normally, seeing the links between Covid and obesity has scared me and I have to be careful not to let it trigger a relapse. But lots of things could do that, including stress.

I’ve put on about half a stone

Not doing the twice daily walk for the school run is really impacting me

Plus going round the twist with three kids stuck at home has had me hiding in the kitchen with cups of tea and a double decker nearly in tears some days.

I'm not sure if I have, maybe a little. Been eating the same but far less movement than usual.

I'm a stone heavier than I was . I used to walk everywhere and to work each day. Always did well over 10000 steps. Now I average about 4000. Been drinking more. I can't wait to get walking again. ( been tied to a laptop / child).

I was stress-eating and drinking alcohol most evenings when lockdown first started. After about 3 weeks I realised I just couldn’t carry on like that, so I started dieting and running. I’m now on week 7 of Couch to 5K, really chuffed with myself, and losing weight. I actually think it’s easier to exercise during lockdown because I have more free time. It’s done wonders for my mental health too.

Seeing MarkRuffaloCrumbles post reminded me that 1 went 2 weeks without thyroid meds too due to a shortage in supplies. That would have had an impact.
My mood plummeted. I had 10 days where I hardly got out of bed just after I got my new supply. Ever since they whipped my thyroid out I can gain weight very easy if eat more than 2 meals a day. I've been eating 3 since lockdown Sad and like i said in my esrlierbpost, my job was very very active but now I'm not running aroundc12/14 hours a day plus exercising.
I'm.like a fucking bus now. I'm.so depressed about it I've lost my mojo and any inclination to diet or move much.

I'm staying about the same I think. Still walking to and from work, although work is slightly less busy than usual. But not feeling that hungry, so maybe eating slightly less.

No cafe lunches, coffee and cake, KFC or MacDonalds for lots of people for weeks though. Although home delivery of sweets and treats is doing big business around here so maybe not.

No one in my household has put any weight on. In fact, myself and daughter have lost a little. And we we slim to start with. Probably due to less takeaways and more home cooked food

My weight hasn't changed but I'm exercising more because I've got more time so I'm in better shape than before lockdown.

Lost over a stone...husband also looking trimmer...intermittent fasting and trying to feel a sense of control despite lockdown!

I’m trying desperately to not lose any more weight. I’ve not changed the amount I eat or the amount of exercise I’m doing, but I have lost half a stone just through stress I think.

Yes. I’m at my heaviest ever, so is DP. Both on a diet now, but my god that was a shock when I weighed myself. The number in stones was 2 higher than I’ve ever seen it!! I know at least half a stone of it was probably before lockdown but the rest is definitely during Shock

In my defence, I have a thyroid issue and had to change my medication due to bloody Covid interrupting supplies. I was more or less bed bound for a week and my metabolism was shot to shit!! However I’m back on an even (-ish) keel now!

We are 1 stone down in this. Working from home means we can both get out the exercise, which wasn’t possible with commute/ school drop off & collection times and our evening routine. We are in a nice habit now of 0800-0900 exercise on alternating days each.

Dh has put on weight (more beer) and I've lost weight - but I was trying to lose weight before lockdown anyway. Outdoor exercise has been the only thing to keep me sane. Generally speaking the Covid crisis has split people into two groups - fitties and fatties. Dsis has put on a stone. But she's still much slimmer than me and in truth needed to put a bit back on.

I m cooking huge now. I had an active job and then exercised on top of that as well.
My jobs gone. I try to go out an exercise but the local facelicking brigade don't get the 2 meter rule or can even guage 1 meter or any decenc bof personal space around here, so I've given up going out for walks now as it just gives me the rage.
I exercise on my rower and cross trainer but its not anywhere near my previous levels.
I'm drinking loads. I can't get a grip of myself. The world has turned into a place of nasty fuckers full of hate. I'm becoming more and more reclusive as I cba anymore.

Nor those who had the disease

DH has had it and he’s put on half a stone. A week of being mildly ill hasn’t negated the 9 weeks of sitting at his desk working from 8am-8pm every day with zero exercise!

I’ve lost half a stone, but it was intentional. Thought I’d make the most of no meals out/drinks out with friends etc to drop a few pounds.

I was trying to lose a little before lockdown and have continued to be careful. No eating out and more walks means I've lost more. I'm surprised more people haven't lost weight without meals out, pub, takeaway coffees etc.
