Why? Because none of them had symptoms or believed they had covid. And because the rules said you could travel to provide care. It was an option. Even he admitted himself he didn't actually explore an alternative options.

AnnieGetYerGun · 26/05/2020 12:13

What is the old saying? ‘Never admit, never explain?‘. Well, he admitted nothing, but explained in a ridiculously detailed way which read like a statement to the police after a lengthy conversation with his brief. Lie after lie. Complete crock of shit.
I felt genuinely outraged throughout the whole thing.

My opinion of Cunnings is that he is a slithering, egotistical snake. But I’ll save my real bile for Johnson in that press briefing afterwards. The arrogance of the man!

The utter contempt these people are showing for us is deeply, deeply disturbing.

AnnieGetYerGun · 26/05/2020 12:14

Great Freudian slip typo there.

sunglasses123 · 26/05/2020 12:19

Sorry, what was a lie? That he travelled up to Durham a number of times?

Of course he admitted things. What conference were you listening into?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/05/2020 12:19

'Not to mention numerous Tory MPs including the one who has just resigned over it'

Who I bet all had big Brexit axes to grind with him anyway.

DippyAvocado · 26/05/2020 12:24

the rules said you could travel to provide care

You could travel to provide care for a vulnerable person, not to receive care, eg you can go to take care of an elderly relative who lives alone. The rules could have been interpreted that someone could travel to him to provide care for the child in truly extenuating circumstances, if they were both so ill they couldn't take care of him themselves. However, that was not the case. His wife was ill with something that may or may not have been Covid, he had no symptoms at the time of travel and they made the journey themselves rather than arranging for a healthy person to come to them.

lilgreen · 26/05/2020 12:25

I can’t actually believe that he is chief adviser to the PM. He was pathetic yesterday. Jesus Christ! This country is in trouble.

Bluebell246 · 26/05/2020 12:27

He's a liar. He has form. Why is anyone surprised? Yes its infuriating but it is his m.o.

AnnieGetYerGun · 26/05/2020 12:33

He drive to Barnard castle with his wife and child in the car to ‘test his eyesight’.

He ‘couldn’t remember’ his conversation with the PM.

He spent two weeks in Durham and nobody in the government was made aware of his decision.

He couldn’t find any childcare in London.

Bullshit.

AnnieGetYerGun · 26/05/2020 12:35

@lilgreen

Agreed. This is the genius mastermind behind our government? Good grief.

Cloudhopping · 26/05/2020 12:35

Whether he’s lying or not, the whole shit show shows him to be someone devoid of the ability to make appropriate, safe, sensible decisions in a crisis situation. Yet he remains an advisor to the PM?

I admit I’ve never been a Tory supporter but I’ve tried hard not to jump on the ‘Boris is doing a crap job’ bus through the corona virus crisis as I thought it was an impossible situation to manage and didn’t believe others could do better. However, I have now lost any faith I did have in the government due to the PM continuing to support this odious little man.

Nonnymum · 26/05/2020 13:05

child when both parents are ill (or about to be and a spouse with CV pretty much indicates the other will get it) is an exception. Get over it.
No it's not an excuse to drive 270 miles. If so people all over the country would do it just in case they might get ill. They have family and childcare in London who could have helped. There was no reason to travel across the country and even less reason for the trip to Barnard Castle.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 26/05/2020 13:11

I am absolutely raging. Wrote to my MP on sunday but felt I had to again yesterday. On top of everything else his has now tacitly endorsed dangerous driving (echoed this morning by Michael Gove WTF!!!).

They are trying to emulate Donald Trump by throwing so many outrages at this that people give up asking. We cannot let them get away with it. I don't know what my lovely country is becoming. It's appalling.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 13:11

Yeah but Annie he couldn't remember his conversation with PM. They were too ill at the time. And yet at some point he also said he probably mentioned it but was too ill to remember - and they would have been discussing vaccines etc at the time anyway as more important.

I really hope they didn't make any huge decisions re vaccines etc at the same time they actually can't remember the conversation they were having.

That could be worse than drunk texting Grin

Nonnymum · 26/05/2020 13:12

His actions have already had an effect I heard someone today say 'I did a Cummings' when breaking lockdown guidelines. Many people will do this now. If he can do it and be told its OK others will do similar.

BlueBrian · 26/05/2020 13:13

More lies from Cumming's wife have turned up now, it's just going to get worse for him, until he's gone.

SheWranglesRugRats · 26/05/2020 13:21

If his wife didn’t realize throwing up was a symptom of CV then she had no reason to believe it was anything other than a 24 hour vomiting bug that she should Just power through.

HarrietM87 · 26/05/2020 13:23

@derxa I see you’ve quoted a random bit of my post out of context. Are you trying to deny that a lot of Tories disagree with DC and the PM’s support of him?

derxa · 26/05/2020 13:29

Are you trying to deny that a lot of Tories disagree with DC and the PM’s support of him? They are but I'm focusing on a Scottish Tory who has a tiny majority here in Scotland where the Tories are very unpopular. He's not particularly brave. He's against Brexit. I'm sorry I didn't show your full post in its entire glory.

HarrietM87 · 26/05/2020 13:39

@derxa it’s just a bit of a pointless response in the context of the thread. For some reason you seem to be defending DC and in doing so decided to quibble with the credentials of the Tory MP who resigned in protest. My original post was in response to a pp who said that everyone attacking DC was a labour remainer. This Scottish guy may well have a slim majority but he’s not labour! You obviously can’t disagree with that.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 13:41

The problem is if people do keep breaking the rules and state "I was doing a Cummings" infections increase and we need to lockdown again it will just prove what they believe - that British people are stupid.

I really hope the British population don't risk their families lives because some twunt thinks he's above us all.

HarrietM87 · 26/05/2020 13:44

Members of my own family have in fact broken lockdown since the DC story broke. I do think they’re idiots but I also can’t blame them because they’re desperate to see their new grandchild who was born in lockdown, see themselves as low risk, and are now saying that the government obviously doesn’t really care about strict enforcement of the rules. This is the upshot of DC’s actions and the govt’s defence of them.

derxa · 26/05/2020 13:48

This Scottish guy may well have a slim majority but he’s not labour! You obviously can’t disagree with that. I think most MPs are self interested egoists whatever party they turn out for.

HarrietM87 · 26/05/2020 13:51

Ok @derxa thats cool but not relevant to the thread. Do you think DC did anything wrong?

derxa · 26/05/2020 13:59

Do you think DC did anything wrong? Is this the Spanish Inquisition? What's the right answer?
