Peed off with Vodafone

Upgraded my phone the beginning of April and had 30GB data. Woke up the morning after getting the phone to a text saying I had used all my data between 3am and 5am. (Phone was connected to WiFi and I was asleep). Called Vodafone and they said they couldn't do anything but I would have to pay £6 for every GB I use. I decided to cancel the contact within the 14 day cooling off period and went with another provider.

Vodafone said they would send a return pack within a few days, 2 weeks later still nothing so I called and they said that they would pay for DPD to collect it in person that week. We were in all week, no one came, left it another week incase it was delayed due to CV. Called again and was told they will send another returns pack.

On Saturday I noticed that I have been charged the last two months for the phone contract so called again. Man on the phone was lovely and was shocked that nothing had arrived, checked my address with me again and said he would speak to his manager and call me back that day.

I've heard nothing. I understand that things are delayed atm, but it's really annoying me now, I don't want to have to keep calling as I know they have limited staff and I'm sitting on hold for 30+ mins each time, but I can't leave it because he told me that until the phone is returned I'll keep being charged.

Is there anything that I can do? I'm currently paying 2 phone bills but not sure what would happen if I was to cancel the direct debitConfused

It was either The Times or the Financial Times that reported Vodafone are getting an excessively high complaint level with the ombudsman regarding their wifi. Can’t remember the exact amount but it was quite shocking.

If you do cancel the dd, its your right, but if you owe them something, expect to be chased.

Vodafone are awful! I was with them when I still lived in the UK and (stupidly) went with them when we moved to Australia as they were a familiar brand.

Initially I went on a contract and was getting charged for calls I didn’t make. I swiftly cancelled it and went onto prepay (still with Vodafone), and it’s been ok since then as I have unlimited calls and text and so much data I’ll never get through it all, at a low price. I also made a complaint to the Ombudsman and got some money back too, which was nice. When we’re in the UK I use my prepaid UK Vodafone sim - no issues anymore because it’s prepaid.

If you can afford to buy your phone outright go into prepaid- so much less drama - and I only have to top up every three months.

I moved to EE and have no problems since and my contract is significantly less for the same phone and more data.

With regards to the direct debit, I don't owe them anything, but still have the phone so not sure where I stand.

I asked if I could send myself or whether any stores where open nearby so I could take there, both were a no so I have no choice but to wait until they collect. I just don't understand why I should be getting charged when this is there error

I had a very early Vodafone smartphone - the N96 - remember those? between 2009 and 2012. That was a time I think when people weren't so aware of things like 300GB and the like - you just had what you had then paid the monthly bill. Add ons /Bolt ons weren't so much of a thing then either.
However, since I've had an iphone with 02 I've tended to use a lot of add on data except in the past month where I've not used any - imo 02 have seemed to clock this and have decided to add a sneaky extra fiver to my much lowered bill anyway!! Mobile phones can be cheeky **&^%$ers!!

I've always been with vodafone and had no problems. I couldn't believe it when they said I had used 30GB of data while I was connected to internet and asleepBlush
