I'm sure it could have happened anywhere.

Three of the authors have retracted the paper due to the 4th author's company unwillingness to release raw data and methods.
Personally, I'm more concerned with their willingness to put their names to data they think to ensure was correct.
The Lancet Editors published an expression of concern on the 3rd of June about this issue.

It's a difficult choice. It's likely that the editors will be more careful, but there's a fine balance between releasing data and ensuring everything is correct.

Personally, I favour being careful about published data. Not just now, btw. It's one of the things that we try to train our students on.
And why there are Cochrane reviews.

Lweji · 05/06/2020 13:21

By anywhere I mean Science, Nature, British Medical Journal...

Not Journal of a Disease Nobody Ever Heard Of.

Lweji · 05/06/2020 13:35

I had forgotten.
It wasn’t just the Lancet.
The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) was also caught up on this company's mud.

Reading some twitter posts from researchers, they're highly sceptical about the co-authors innocence.

Anyhow...

Trump core supporters aren't happy, despite his Bible waving. Or because of it?

Not so welcome in Maine.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/06/2020 15:55

Jaysus! He's just fanning the fucking flames isn't he???!!!!

I'm turning it to Sesame Street, and I don't even have little ones. Big Bird is a better leader and makes more sense than that bloviating 'Agitator in Chief'.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 05/06/2020 16:03

Shut the eff up!

Trump suggests George Floyd is marveling at today’s jobs numbers from Heaven: “Hopefully George is looking down and seeing this is a great day for our country.”

Isn't a Trump due to visit you in Maine tomorrow Lobster? Do you think he'll get a "warm" welcome?

Protestors are already gathering in Guilford, but TBH it's so tiny, and the roads in and out will be blocked for most of the day, I don't think there will be much action there.

Bangor is the city he's flying into - lots of protestors heading up there. I don't think he's going to be delighted by thousands of Trumpsters gleefully welcoming him.

I'm staying well clear... as is every politician in Maine who matters.

You might like this from the Press Herald too - www.pressherald.com/2020/06/04/bill-nemitz-an-open-letter-from-maine-to-the-president-who-isnt/

Finishes with...

"So go ahead, Donald, do your thing if you must. Throw nasal swabs at the crowd like you tossed the paper towels at hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. Treat your stay here like the self-promotion it is, not the moment of reconciliation and healing it could be.

Just know that outside the rope lines, just beyond the carefully screened supporters in their flaming red headgear, an entire nation – and entire world, for that matter – watches you with a mixture of alarm and disgust.

May your ego trip to Maine be uneventful.

May it also be short.

And, once you’ve moved on to your next carnival act, may it be quickly forgotten."

Trump suggests George Floyd is marveling at today’s jobs numbers from Heaven: “Hopefully George is looking down and seeing this is a great day for our country.”

OMG that's a really awful thing to say, it's all so raw at the moment, how can he think saying that is OK? Shock

AcrossthePond55 · 05/06/2020 17:11

That remark about Mr Floyd is beyond contempt.

Words fail me.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/06/2020 17:14

Honestly, I think he's trying to fan the flames and incite people to protest. What better excuse will he ever have to deploy the military inside the US?

It remains to be seen if/how he'll manage to keep them on the streets until after 3 November.

Roussette · 05/06/2020 17:23

I have just watched clips of his presser. He literally has lost it. Just rambling, incoherent, jumping from subject to subject, a 40 minute word spew, and then getting arsey when asked a question.

Lweji · 05/06/2020 17:37

And a strong economy is the best for race relations?
Not when it's at the expense of some groups on low salaries.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/06/2020 17:48

Roussette And this is different from his usual pressers how? 😉

Roussette · 05/06/2020 17:55

Hehe... it was very very rambly. There was a 4 minute clip I watched and I have no idea what the point was, what he was talking about, it was incoherent!

No different really Grin

B1rdbra1n · 05/06/2020 18:09

That remark about Mr Floyd is beyond contempt
and totally what you'd expect from a man who tried to stage an ambush of recently bereaved parents by the woman who mowed down their teenage son

cozietoesie · 05/06/2020 18:54

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/george-floyd-protests-uk-export-tear-gas-rubber-bullet-us-a9551006.html

'Pressure is growing on ministers to suspend the export of British riot gear, teargas, and rubber bullets to the US in light of a violent police crackdown against peaceful civil rights protesters in the country.

More than 160 MPs from every major party in the Commons, including Boris Johnson’s own, have written to Liz Truss, the international trade secretary, calling for an immediate end to exports while an investigation takes place.

Meanwhile nearly half a million people have signed a petition on the issue in just a few days backing the call to end sales.'

Shut the eff up!

Trump suggests George Floyd is marveling at today’s jobs numbers from Heaven: “Hopefully George is looking down and seeing this is a great day for our country.”

I was in the car listening to the radio when they played Trump saying "Its a great day its a great day for George Floyd" I nearly drove into a lamppost I was yelling so hard at the radio.

When you want a win, but bench your best players.
Although some seem to prefer to work with their own teams.
