Not everything is Antifa.

A fake Antifa site created by white nationalists inciting to looting. Hmm

www.businessinsider.com/white-nationalist-identity-evropa-twitter-antifa-looting-2020-6

PerkingFaintly · 03/06/2020 09:56

Astonish me, Lewji. "Antifa" seems the cloak of choice for a lot of far-right activity.

More about this particular set of white supremacists:

IDENTITY EVROPA/AMERICAN IDENTITY MOVEMENT
www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/group/identity-evropaamerican-identity-movement

Identity Evropa is at the forefront of the racist "alt-right's" effort to recruit white, college-aged men and transform them into the fashionable new face of white nationalism. Rather than denigrating people of color, the campus-based organization focuses on raising white racial consciousness, building community based on shared racial identity and intellectualizing white supremacist ideology.

@Laaf80

Sorry to jump in but I saw a bit of Trumps speech yesterday, just a bit.

He seemed more eloquent than usual, not his usual jerky uncontrolled word salad. How? Was it all a camera play?

I’m absolutely terrified (I’m black in the UK), Will the US descend into full out third reich? The unprovoked brutality I’m seeing on SM is terrifying.

He was much more coherent than usual because he was reading a prewritten speech from an autocue, which is running on both sides of him which he keeps turning from side to side. However I'm not convinced he had actually read through the speech in advance as there was little emotion to his delivery, he was merely reading the words. Definitely written by someone else which is why he can't summon up any of his usual enthusiasm shown for his own thoughts. Not his usual vocabulary either.
Roussette · 03/06/2020 10:14

Exactly Bruce
Whenever he does this rise and fall tone in a speech (hate it), it's him reading from autocue with an important speech that he is incapable of injecting any compassion or feeling into

B1rdbra1n · 03/06/2020 11:00

rise and fall tone
I hate it too, I call it a sing-song voice, to me it sounds as if he is singing to himself, soothing himself, a lullaby to calm himself down and reassure himself that he is is the all-powerful one and everyone will obey
but I can no longer bear to watch him or listen to him I wish there was an option for an alternative cartoon version of the footage and then perhaps I could bear to watch it

Can I say here a thing that is bothering me?

On MN you cannot move for discussion of "identity politics". It is almost always labelled as being a feature of The Left, and there's discussion in endless detail of how the The Left is a failure because, identity politics.

Meanwhile the most blatant, centuries-old practice of identity politics – ie white supremacism – is being actively promoted, often in universities and of course on YouTube and Twitter, and even handily names itself an identitarian movement or Generation Identity, just in case anyone missed a point.

And on this subject MN is completely silent.

MNers have been discussing identity politics for years now, and actively look for links and similarities with many, many other movements and activities: 1970s paedophiles, animal rights activists, student politics (but only leftwing)...

But if you got your news on identity politics solely from MN, you wouldn't even know that the white supremacist identitarian movement existed. No mention, no linking to other forms of identity politics, nothing.

The omission is... odd.

Faint whiff of the dog that didn't bark.

lionheart · 03/06/2020 13:39

It has been instructive to look at the other Trump related threads that pop up from from time to time.

The responses to more recent events makes for some interesting reading ...

TheNorthWestPawsage · 03/06/2020 14:21

I think that there is still a fear for many on MN that any discussion of white identity equates with racism and tones of the "master race". The dogs that do want to bark, do so subtly and insidiously - with false outrage and feigned innocence when challenged. But they are definitely there.

Now I know I'm in the 'Upside Down'!

Per CNN: Televangelist Pat Robertson on Tuesday condemned President Donald Trump's response to nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd and police brutality, saying "you just don't do that, Mr. President"

lionheart · 03/06/2020 14:33

Bizarre.

lionheart · 03/06/2020 14:35

It would be great if she did this kind of thing in order to sabotage him.

'Steve King, the white supremacist congressman from Iowa, was defeated in a shocking Republican primary Tuesday, bringing an end to the long legislative career of one of Washington’s most explicit bigots.'

I am honestly speechless

Trump 101: How not to President (TrumpThread #101)
PerkingFaintly · 03/06/2020 16:20

My mind is boggled at that Pat Robertson speech.Shock

Do you think Robertson's reaction is genuinely to the protests and justice of their cause? Or do you think he's using it as a way of ditching Trump? Perhaps because Dim Don said the quiet part out loud – as he so often does?

Maybe Robertson feels that holding the bible up and pretending to be justified by the word of god, while sweeping the dispossessed out of sight, is his own prerogative. And Trump's inadequately disguised performance has pulled the cover of Robertson and other evangelicals' actions.

Or am I being too cynical there?

Roussette · 03/06/2020 16:29

Oh hahaha... Trump has said he went to the underground bunker just to 'inspect' it.
He honestly does make himself like even more stupid every time he opens his mouth.

news.sky.com/story/donald-trump-says-he-went-to-white-house-bunker-to-inspect-it-not-because-of-protests-11999850

lionheart · 03/06/2020 16:50

I don't think there can be a 'too cynical' in relation to this regime.

He obviously does not like #bunkerbitch.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/06/2020 16:57

I don't know what to think about Pat Robertson. He's older than dirt, maybe he realizes he's thisclose to the Pearly Gates so he better change his ways and store up some 'good works' for St Peter to write down in the Book of Life before he gets there.

macaroni Nothing Scrotus tweets surprises me anymore. Any day now I'm expecting him to re-title himself "Messiah of the United States".

AcrossthePond55 · 03/06/2020 16:58

Then we can call him "Messy".

Laaf80 · 03/06/2020 16:59

Thanks @BruceAndNosh and coherent was the word I should have used, not eloquent.

I was a bit panicked when I wrote it.

I've just read back my earlier reply to you, and I apologise if it sounded like I was correcting you. I put coherent in bold and intended to use a different term for comparison in the next sentence. But then I rambled off at a tangent..... I guess I've been listening to too much Trump!
B1rdbra1n · 03/06/2020 17:46

Messy
yep, messy bunkerboy :o
