To not want to smell weed in my garden

Ok, I'm not completely unreasonable and I'm guessing I can smell it more because my neighbours are furloughed so have more time on their hands and I'm in the garden more too but from my morning coffee onwards there is a smell of weed floating over from next door one side and next door but 2 the other. My children recognise the smell now and go indoors. I wouldn't mind occasional but it's all the time, in fact the other night we slept with our window open for the first time in ages and at 7am could smell it.
We're about to spend a small fortune on our house extending and getting the dream open plan interior. It would cost us a lot more to move but I'm getting resentful of the constant smell when I'm in my garden. On the plus side, neighbours aren't noisy. Probably too stoned but don't hear a peep past 9pm.

No you aren’t being - your children are being exposed to drugs. Call the police.

Thecruxxofitis · 25/05/2020 19:11

Yanbu it smells absolutely vile

Workhelpplease20 · 25/05/2020 19:11

No, I hate it too. I put a note through and it stopped, go for a walk while you smoke but not around other people's gardens.

heartsonacake · 25/05/2020 19:11

YANBU. Let the police know.

They’re doing illegal drugs and exposing you and your children to it. That is extremely selfish and I would not stand for it.

CeibaTree · 25/05/2020 19:12

I'm not against people smoking weed in their own homes, but when it's impacting others (especially children), it's time to call the police.

EmeraldShamrock · 25/05/2020 19:14

The police won't do anything. If they're otherwise good neighbour's I'd have a word even stick a note in the door. They're probably oblivious to the smell travelling, they might invest in a small greenhouse to smoke in.

Mrsjayy · 25/05/2020 19:15

It really stinks doesn't it my neighbour is partial to a late night smoke it wafts up the gardens and in through closed windows it is horrible!

Wineiscooling · 25/05/2020 19:18

I have thought of just asking them to go else where to do it, I just feel a bit awkward about it. Our next door neighbours are generally good, no issues, children the same age as mine so can't understand them exposing their children to it. I don't want to get in to wars about it and I'm thinking maybe they don't realise. My 12 year old has taken to shouting loudly that it stinks so I was hoping that might do it!

You don't need to contact the police just write pretty much what you wrote here and stick it thro their door. Or if possible have a word. All day and starting that early is not really ok.

NailsNeedDoing · 25/05/2020 19:22

I just see it as one of many things that neighbours can do that can bother other people, no worse than having an extension or doing anything that can be heard or smelt. I’m one of the few people that can’t stand barbecue smells, but I wouldn’t expect neighbours to change themselves for me. They’ll likely be back to work soon enough and it won’t be a problem anymore.

x2boys · 25/05/2020 19:24

What do peop!e think the police will do ?whilst it's not pleasant half my estate smoke weed and the police are regularly here and do nothing .

Destroyedpeople · 25/05/2020 19:28

Everyone in my block smokes weed and the other flats too probably. Be a waste of police time tbh.

CatBatCat · 25/05/2020 19:28

If its all day long it'll be a grow.

Somanysocks · 25/05/2020 19:29

I think they don't realise how it travels and lingers. I actually got so annoyed one day that I shouted over the fence to my neighbour asking could he smoke it elsewhere, he actually apologised and it hasn't been so bad since.

My local police advised me to report him if it was affecting me as it is illegal, I haven't though as I don't want to fall out with them.

Somanysocks · 25/05/2020 19:31

Oh and obviously yanbu.

PleasePassTheCoffeeThanks · 25/05/2020 19:39

You can’t prevent people from doing things in their garden even if it is annoying: bbqs, cigarette smokers, weed smokers, screaming children, shouting adults, music, balls hitting fences... I imagine we are all annoying someone at some point 🤷🏼‍♀️

PleasePassTheCoffeeThanks · 25/05/2020 19:40

Oh I forgot the shitting cats

kanikke · 25/05/2020 21:09

Personally I'd let it go, if they're otherwise good neighbours I wouldn't want to cause tentions when the problem will hopefully improved when they go back to work.

I used to smoke weed, but when I quit drugs I increased the amount of regular cigarettes I smoked by a lot. Even if they stopped smoking weed there's nothing to stop the smell of regular smoke continuing.

Even as an ex smoker I can understand how horrible the smell of smoke is btw, I had to bite my tongue when we had builders smoking in our garden, nasty.
